Assessing Minimally Attached Gingiva

to check for any minimally attached gingiva you first want to check the poles of the frenum I usually do this as part of my oral cancer screening and what you want to do is pull the lip firmly down with two hounds to be able to see the musical gingival junction where the attached and the unattached gingiva meet if you see two millimeters are less bring this up to the dentist for evaluation and possible referral to the periodontist for need of a gum graft to find the mucilage in double Junction take a probe and start on the unattached gingiva and slide up to the point where the gingiva becomes immobile then measure the gingival margin to the Mucca changeable junction so right here we have four millimeters then you're going to subtract the probe depth which is one millimeter this will give you the amount of gingiva that is attached to the bone so right here we have three millimeters of attached gingiva
