she's a typical teenager going shopping yeah but there's something very special about versia my condition is one in a million she was born with an extremely rare medical condition pentology of Cantrell leaving her heart beating outside her chest covered only by a thin layer of skin over the years we followed versa's story here she is when she was eight a you have a beautiful heart thank you doctors gave her mom a grim prognosis the doctors told me that she will not make even to one day but now she's 14 now she's in eighth grade she has to be careful with everything she does I can't do any physical activities or run my stamina has gone down a lot over the years so I can't even do as much as tying my shoes without losing my breath veravia used to wear a shield to protect her heart from physical injury oh that's hard but she says she's done with that my heart doesn't worry me at all I feel like I'm able to protect myself if I ever fall I have this instinct to put my hands in front of myself so I never follow my heart her mom says she's a miracle but veravia sees things differently it's less of a miracle and more of my mother's love my mom believed I don't think it's anything but that I am proud of her being able to love herself and be very social and do not be afraid there are only 50 documented cases of this condition in the world veravia has this advice for other teens facing adversity you shouldn't care what other people say about you or think about you what you think of yourself is the most important she's been told she may not live past 30 but her mom believes she will once again beat the [Music] odds
