Spanish Future Tense Overview

Hola, en esta lección, vamos a hablar de los verbos en el tiempo futuro. In Spanish, we use the future to talk about, well, the future. It's actually really easy. Before we learn how to do it though, I'd like for you to try something out. In the following sentences, let me know if something is probable o improbable. Pause the video if you need more time and check the word bank if you aren't sure about a word. En cincuenta años, la gente comerá carne. Probable. Iremos a otras galaxias. Improbable Habrá una cura para el cáncer. Improbable. Los cerdos volarán. Improbable. Yo seré un abuelo. Probable. Mi esposa y yo estaremos más enamorados. Probable. Tú estarás vivo. Probable, pero depende de tu edad. Alguien encontrará el Santo Grial. Improbable. Los carros ya no usarán la gasolina de petróleo. Probable. Los hombres y las mujeres se entenderán. Improbable. Now, we can't know right now. If you disagree with me. No worries. But let's look at those sentences again. Did you notice how the verbs looked in the future? Let's take a look at those examples. Notice that almost all of the verbs are the infinitive, that is the R ending, with something else attached. Can you find examples for each of the categories? You should have noticed the following. So if we take the infinitive form of the verb, we can add the following endings to make it in the future tense. That is to say, will. Still confused? Well, let's take a verb like dormir to sleep. Usually dormir has some weird changes in different forms like the past and the present but now let's go ahead and see it in the future. So I'll take the verb dormir and I'll just add the following. Dormiré. I will sleep. Dormirás. You will sleep. Dormirá. He will sleep. She will sleep. You will sleep. Formal. Dormiremos. We will sleep. Dormirán. They will sleep. Or you will all sleep. Por ejemplo, Ya dormiremos cuando estemos muertos. We'll finally sleep when we're dead. ¿En qué número de habitación dormirán ustedes en el hotel? In what room number will you guys sleep in the hotel? Let's try another. How about ser to be? Seré, I will be. Serás, you will be. Será, he will be, She will be, you formal will be seremos, we will be serán. They will be, or you all will be. Por ejemplo, Angélica será enfermera en cuatro años. Angelica will be a nurse in 4 years. En unos seis meses, Pedro será papá. In some 6 months, Pedro will be a father. Pretty easy, right? Okay, to review. We take the verb in the infinitive and we add the endings. Now please notice that there was 1 weird 1 in the examples. ¿Cuál? Oh, habrá. Habrá is from the verb haber. It's not haberá, there will be, instead it's HABRÁ. Okay, it's a little weird, but otherwise the rest follow the rule, right? We'll talk about the irregulars in the next video. But for now, let's practice a little bit. Choose the correct form of the verb. Then see if you can figure out what the sentence means.
