Sentence Structure and Components

  • Basic sentence structure: Subject + Verb + Object
    • Understand systematically.
  • Importance of table: Subject Table
    • Subject forms: ish, du, er, sie, es, wir, ihr, sie, Sie
    • Subject can also be called nominative
    • Object can be accusative (acc) or dative (dat)

Subject and Object

  • Example Nouns & Pronouns transformations
    • Subject/nominative: I, he, she, it, they, formal you
    • Accusative object (accObj): me, him, her, it, them
    • Dative object (datObj): to me, to him, to her, to it, to them

Verbs and Conjugation

  • Importance of verb endings and subject conjugation
    • Verb example: kochen (to cook)
      • I cook: ich koche
      • He cooks: er kocht
  • Conjugation rules: e, st, t, en, t, en
    • Accusative verbs: Visit (besuchen), Love (lieben), Need (brauchen)
    • Dative verbs: Help (helfen), Thank (danken), Belong (gehören)
  • Conjugation examples
    • Let's try Besuchen: ich besuche, du besuchst, er/sie/es besucht, wir besuchen, ihr besucht, sie/Sie besuchen

Establishing Subject and Object in Sentences

  • Framework to use verbs in sentences
    • Noun examples
      • Accusative: Ich besuche dich (I visit you)
      • Dative: Ich helfe dir (I help you)

Pronouns Table (in German)

  • Personal Pronouns used as subjects and objects (both accusative and dative forms)
  • Pronouns: ich (I), du (you), er (he), es (it), sie (she), wir (we), ihr (you all)
    • Accusative: mich (me), dich (you), ihn (him), es (it), sie (her), uns (us), euch (you all)
    • Dative: mir (to me), dir (to you), ihm (to him), ihr (to her), uns (to us), euch (to you all)
