hi guys today we're going to be talking about cameras about my previous camera the Fuji fil xt5 and about my recent camera the Nikon Zev I've been using both of them for extensive amount of time uh the Fuji film was with me for about 2 years and uh ZF I vot the ZF in September which means I'm using it extensively for about four and a half five months we reached the 40,000 shutter activation recently so I can confidently say that I have experience with both of them and can give you my insight of what do I think about the switch and uh how do I feel about the both cameras in general um just to clarify I'm not paid by any of the companies I purchase the cameras by myself and I'm using them in my own work my work consist mostly of uh travel documentary and street photography which means I'm spending a lot of time walking around on the streets and traveling and photographing with them so I will be attacking the issue from that perspective if you're here for video specs or how to use manual lenses uh adapted to the camera that's not the right place for you so you can carry on um let's Pi first about build quality I purchased my Fuji film at the moment it got out and it had some quality issues one of them was the back screen was wobbling somehow I know that later on they fixed that issue but uh if you have a wobbling back screen probably you have one of the first models that Fujifilm released and the second issue in terms of bat quality build quality that I have with Fujifilm was these dials on the top Fujifilm has double dials when the top dial would prer a certain function and the bottom di will prefer another function what I found is that very often when I switched my eyeso or shutter speed I would find myself in a different shooting mode it would it would just move the dial below and that didn't happen too much but it was quite annoying when it happened sometimes you you're out there chasing a moment and you realize that you are in [Music] a in a multiple explosion mode or something like that uh of course you quickly recover from it some you notice it and you change your settings back but but again you you might miss moments because of that um but if you speak about the build quality in general the fuif the if we speak about the build quality in general the Nikon wins hands down it's betterly built and it feels more as a premium product rather than the Fujifilm feels a little bit plasticky and uh yeah cheaper just generally cheaper also but that contributes for the weight and the Nikon is quite heavier but I'm not so much bothered about that another thing that you will notice and it's also kind of discussed a lot on the forums is the lack of grip here like this camera has very very shallow grip and if you're using it with bigger lenses you will find yourself uh hard to hold it with one hand and balance I mostly use the smaller lenses of the Nikon system so uh it works fine for me and I also purchased that small leather case with which I found to be more comfortable that small leather case which I found to be more comfortable than most of the groups out there it just has more organic feel when you hold for it and uh if you get your hands on a on a camera on a cold day you will find that you will find it some more pleasant to hold so if you're speaking generally about how you hold a camera the Fuji films H wins hands down what got me in the Fujifilm system in the first place was the dial out I I really like the fact that I can see my shatter speed and my eyeso on top of the camera without looking into a small screen and uh changing the settings was quite comfortable especially on the street and that was also the reason why I choose the neck on ZF at the time because it has a similar layout but later on uh after starting using the neon I noticed that it's not exactly as I as I hoped for first of all all there is the auto ISO nonsense that is wildly discussed in in Nikon forms you kind of have this dial on the top uh which which allows you to control the iso but this is Works only in manual mode uh the moment you switch the to automatic iser mode you can't really immediately switch to uh to use manual ISO which was quite convenient in Fujifilm you have the auto ISO and then if you want to override with manual you could just use the dial in Nikon you need to do some kind of voodoo do some Li some limitations and basically if you're if you're shooting auto ISO this D becomes absolute the shutter speed dial that one it's also very nice it it has a nice click to it very good quality but it's a full it's a full stops um full it's a full stop dial uh for example I can shoot at 250 or at one uh 125 for the second 250 of the second or 500 of the second but if I want to shoot 200 or 320 or 640 I cannot to do that I need to switch to to a to a one third of the step and then use the back button to adjust my uh ISO so if you're using thirds of a stu that dial becomes absolute as well so we ended up with having two dials and if we're using kind of half automatic modes and and and third stops they both become absolute and not so useful uh Fuji has much better implementation when it comes to these two another thing is the back screen it has been discussed a lot uh this is not the screen that I would choose for street photography I I did use the Fujifilm screen by by just flipping it up quite often I find myself almost never using that screen because to shoot from a lower angle I need to open then remember to which side to turn the screen and then somehow it just doesn't balance as right to look on the right side and kind of frame frame little bit uh look on the left side and kind of frame a little bit on the right so it's also less convenient I think that this is probably my two main issues with this camera is that the eyes the dials are not necessarily uh fully used and the back screen is not is not so convenient but I do like the switch here that you have between manual aperture priority shut speed priority and program mode it's uh very convenient because in Fujifilm to switch to aperture priority you kind of need to dial uh to to switch the shutter speed to Auto uh and then uh and then use this and here is just by one switch you switching from automatic to to one of the pro to half automatic modes which I like a lot I use especially if I need to use portraits I just switch to a to go to my lowest aperture and uh work my way from there the viewfinder I don't know maybe there are some differences for me it feels the same um what else the lack of joysticks here is quite annoying I do find myself uh not so convenient with the pausing through the viewfinder and touching the screen I cannot get used to that I would prefer to have a joystick still but what I found myself doing I find myself focusing and working from the screen significantly more than I used to do with Fujifilm with Fujifilm I would I would significantly more composed to the viewfinder here I'm composing from the screen and the compositions are more sloppy doing it that way uh but the autofocus works really well so in many cases it's just it's it's bothering me but not bothering me that much um both camera are supposed to be weather sealed and I shooting with both of them in a in a rainy weather conditions which I found in the Fujifilm I found some ghosting in the viewfinder which immediately pushed my confidence in the camera down I felt that there is like water inside and I couldn't shoot the confidently with it never happened with the with the Nikon never seen any water ghosting from the viewfinder so it was is always working pretty well um another thing to notice is the battery life I feel that the battery life is kind of the same in both cameras and that would be probably all about the controls and other things if we speak about the menu system I feel that uh Fujifilm wins with that one too uh it's easier to navigate the menus it's uh the layout of the buttons are easier and uh it's it's better better thought in terms of photography I think I think Fujifilm did a wonderful job with the ergonomics and the button layout and uh I I I loved using that camera for that purpose but let's speak about the elephant in the room which is autofocus I know that Fujifilm released multiple uh updates to autof focusing to their autof focusing system but um it was never up to the standard especially if you have subjects coming towards your camera and you kind of try to track them as they're approaching closer I would never get a a shot that is locked on the eye it would always miss on something focus on the shirt focus on some bag that they're carrying this camera managed to track the eye of a person carrying Chicken on her on his head and like the the hands of the chicken were covering his eye and still tracked perfectly so in terms of autofocus this camera was significantly more reliable I know that Fujifilm recently released additional update but I couldn't wait anymore for Fuji I waited for 2 years for them to fix out focusing system this was actually the my main trigger to move I was waiting for them for two years to fix the of focusing system and I didn't do it so uh I just moved on to another brand that that just has better te in that in that department another thing that uh surprised me uh in a way is how the automatic metering is working here when I'm using average metering of the scene I find that the Nikon hits the exposure significantly better than than the Fuji fil another nice gimmick that they have here is that you have a uh exposure highlight highlight based muring mode which which allows you to I attached it to that button so when I'm shooting with a location when you have a high contrast between lights and Shadow I can switch basically immediately to to enter to the light and shadows games it's it's very very convenient I don't need to like significantly underexpose or use the exposure compensation I just press a button and I'm immediately in the Highlight based mode the camera measures the highlights and uh it does wonderful job from this too speaking about the menus uh one of the things that I used to use in Fuji film a lot is H you know I'm going outside I'm shooting then I'm having a coffee somewhere I would have a coffee somewhere and uh I will sit and go through my images that I shot uh through the day and being able to rate them and the rating system just you play spray and you just uh choose how many stars next how many stars next here for every single image I need to enter separately Maybe I don't understand something how the the camera works or like I'm not technical enough to find a better way I also attach to the play mode I attach this button here to just put me a rate some kind of rate so I can immediately see the photo later on when I import it to Lightroom but rating from three to five stars conveniently it's just not as convenient as in Fujifilm so the rating system uh works in the Fujifilm significantly better as well let's speak about files uh if you speak about the JPEG files I think that uh Fujifilm WIS wins here the colors are nicer the film simulations are quite nice and you can kind of get your own look and if you're shooting jpeg definitely Fujifilm would be the one to look at but if we're looking at the row files and then icon can recover much more details they're juicier in general and what I found is that usually I need less editing on the roll files on the icon than on the Fujifilm somehow with the Fuji film I always struggled to get this uh just neutral look uh from which I can start working there was always some kind of cast some kind of colors that I didn't really like so uh Nikon wins big time for me it saves me a lot on the editing time if we speak about megapixels uh the 24 against 40 yes 40 megapixel gives you a lot more details but uh the 24 megapixel gives you quite enough and it's significantly wins in terms big win in terms of size another thing that's a lot of people talk about it is the low light image quality I found myself using auto ISO in this camera and I almost I don't remember when I when it was the last time that I used the noise reduction software it's just good as it is until ISO 3,200 at least the files are just clean enough you just can use them straight away and the next thing want to speak a little bit about is the lens pairing in in the Fujifilm system the lenses are quite smaller and easier to use but I still I think that the the F2 lenses from the Fuji Fu systems are they do feel more naturally and you can hang out throughout the day with one lens on the camera without feeling it so strongly on the back with an ion on the other hand the 24 mm and the 40 mm are brilliant uh I can I can go around with them for the whole day but if you attach a zoom lens to this thing and this is a small Zoom this is the 2470 F4 I choose it because it's the smaller size and when you open it this thing is you know you can you can see the difference uh it immediately the camera immediately gets quite heavy and quite big on the front and it's not so small anymore I still use it quite well for travel photography but carrying this lens on the on the neck for the whole day becomes pain and so in generally my set in in the in the Nikon lenses kind of finishes in the f1.5 uh F 1.8s lenses the 50 the 85 and the 35 they're all up to 500 G more or less so these are tolerable I don't think that I will feel comfortable carrying one of the bigger lenses that are 800 G in the further it's just too heavy on the neck even even the even that lens is already too heavy on the neck uh for more comfortable walking around I would just use the 28 mm I do look at the manual lenses I still didn't have a chance to use any of them but I do look to try some of the manual smaller lenses and see how that how this will work for me but overall if I have to speak about a combination of a lens and Camera the Fujifilm again wins especially with the uh aperture uh ring aperture ring on the lens gives you another settings just in front of your in front of your eyes that you don't need to get into into the settings so let's try and wrap it up I think that both cameras are good it is important to understand what exactly you need I think that for fishing style and slow shooting the Fujifilm is going to do a great job it's lighter and it's uh very convenient and fun to use camera for people who have the latest computers and are happy to process larger files again the Fujifilm is going to be great if you have a slower computer uh the your your computer will love the Nikon files I actually I was considering changing my computer but when I get back to Nikon I I feel that it's fine I can use it for another year or two so it actually saved me some money in upgrading my computer right now if you're a faster shooter and you're hunting for moment and you kind of want to be you kind of want to capture the moments quickly as they happen I think that the Nikon will have better value for you because you you will simply it will be very rare for you to miss a moment you it focuses right away and it's sharp in the right place and it can track subjects it just works well the autof focus is is is brilliant compared to Fujifilm at least that's how I feel I know that there are better cameras out there but for me it's good enough for most of the things and for people who travel consistently and uh want to use the camera for both travel and street photography I think that the the Nikon wins especially because you have a lot of situation when you're shooting around Sunrise you're light dependent I think that Nikon gets better output from low life scenarios the Fuji was not bad but the Nikon is still better and it's it sounds that I complained a lot about the Nikon in in certain point but the the the trth TR is that I don't regret for a moment I'm actually I was thinking a few days ago that I really really love this camera even with the quirky buttons that uh I'm not using as much as I thought and the back display that is not exactly what I hoped for I still feel that the ZF is just Better Built camera for a photographer uh that really lies on its equipment uh I I know that people use Fujifilm for Pro work as well but I do feel that the nron will just do a better job and I hope that the videos that I that I'm publishing are watched by both sides both Nikon and Fujifilm because both have some work to do to improve the cameras to be better and give us better results and uh eventually I think with the next models we will all win and you know like few more updates happen and after a few more updates suddenly you can find yourself that the camera that was frustrating you for extended per period of time now it's it's fine it's work well uh tell me in the comments what do you think how do you feel about about uh both cameras if you if you had a chance to shoot with both of them and uh yeah enjoy your shooting byebye
