Jaw Relaxation and Flexibility Exercise

Cheeky Jaw Exercise

Purpose

  • This exercise is designed to engage the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) area and promote relaxation and flexibility in the jaw.

Steps

  1. Hand Positioning

    • Use three middle fingers of the right hand, facing backward, and place them on the TMJ or the meaty part of the jaw.
    • Place three fingers of the left hand, facing forward, on the opposite side of the jaw.
  2. Squeezing Motion

    • Squeeze hands together and turn them so that they meet at the bottom of the jaw.
    • Hold this position.
  3. Breathing and Movement

    • Breathe in through the nose and slowly look to the right.
    • Breathe in through the nose and slowly look to the left.
    • Breathe in and return to center.
  4. Jaw Opening and Squat

    • Look up and open the jaw three times.
    • Breathe in through the mouth, squat, and look up to the right.
    • Open the jaw three times.
    • Look up to the left and open the jaw three times.
  5. Final Steps

    • Return to center and unwind the hands.
    • Go for a walk to complete the exercise.
