Steps to Create a 3D Ceiling Plane
Mar 20, 2025
Creating a 3D Model: Ceiling Plane
Overview
Focus on creating a ceiling plane in a 3D model.
Avoid detailed roof creation; instead, imply a ceiling or lid.
Steps to Create a Ceiling
Step 1: Start Outside the Group
Click outside of the group to see the wall group.
Ensure you are outside the group and can see all exterior walls.
Step 2: Use the Line Tool
Trace the perimeter of the plan with the Line Tool.
Aim to create a face over the top of the plan.
This face acts as the lid or ceiling in interior views.
Step 3: Drawing the Face
Begin tracing at any endpoint.
Click and drag along each endpoint of the perimeter.
Ensure to stay on the red and green axes.
Complete the tracing by meeting the original endpoint.
Step 4: Create a Group
Use the Select Tool to select the new face created.
Double-click, right-click, and select "Make Group."
On Mac, use Command + G as a shortcut.
Step 5: Add Volume
Double-click into the group and use Push-Pull.
Pull the lid up to 4 inches (type '4' and press Enter).
Click away to set the lid in place.
Adding a Tag
Step 6: Create a Tag
Open the Tags panel.
Create a new tag (e.g., "01," "roof," "lid," or "ceiling").
Step 7: Assign the Tag
Click on the lid group.
Open the Entity Info panel.
Change the lid to the new tag created.
Step 8: Control Visibility
Use the Tag visibility (eyeball icon) to show or hide the lid.
Keep it off while creating interior views and scenes.
Final Note
The lid implies a ceiling for interior views.
While roofs are sloped in reality, this approach serves the purpose for interior design emphasis.
