Understanding Types of Governments

There are three main types of governments: autocracies, oligarchies and democracies. An autocracy means there is one ruler. An oligarchy means there's a small group ruling on the top and a democracy is a type of government where everyone gets a say. Now let's look at each type in detail. An autocracy is a form of government in which one person rules at the top. It might be a king or a queen or a dictator with complete control, but the key here is one. An oligarchy is a type of government in which a small group at the top holds the power and the rest of the population doesn't usually get a say. Sometimes they agree and sometimes they disagree which can lead to a lot of confusion about who is actually leading and what decisions are being made. A democracy is a type of government in which everyone gets a say. This doesn't mean that everyone is a member of government, but that there is a means by which they can voice their opinion, usually through a vote. In other words, the power rests with the people. Let's review. An autocracy is a form of government with one ruler at the top like a king, a queen or a dictator. An oligarchy is a form of government with a small group ruling at the top that sometimes agree and sometimes disagree. A democracy is a form of government in which everyone gets a say.
