Key Functions of the Skeletal System

one of the basic functions of the skeletal system is to provide support which is going to be the structural framework of the body it'll support soft tissue and even places of attachment for tendons okay it also serves to protect internal organs some examples might be the pelvis which is going to protect protect the reproductive organs the ribs will protect the lungs and the heart all right the spine protects the spinal cord and the skull is going to protect the brain now third the skeletal system assists in movement right it provides a surface for muscular attachment and when those muscles contract they're going to pull on the bones and that will produce movement all right the skeletal system also AIDS in Mineral homeostasis specifically calcium and phosphorus storage inside spongy bone is going to be where red marrow is found in adults it'll be yellow marrow or fatty marrow which will be found in the medullary cavity all right but uh marrow the the yellow marrow can be easily converted to red marrow when an individual needs more red blood cells all right and even white blood cells and it'll easily convert back to Yellow marrow after it has produced more blood cells all right now the production of blood cells is called hematopoiesis so that's kind of the the blood cell production um that the term for blood cell production okay now yellow marrow is also responsible for the storage of fats all right in this case triglycerides which is going to be mainly composed of Adipose cells
