Getting Started with DaVinci Resolve

  • DaVinci Resolve: Free alternative to paid editing programs
  • Installation: Download the latest version and fill out some information
  • Project Creation:
    • Open DaVinci Resolve
    • Click 'New Project'
    • Name your project

DaVinci Resolve Interface Overview

  • Split into 7 tabs: Edit tab used 90% of the time
  • Media Pool: Drag media files here
  • Timeline: Drag clips into the timeline for editing
  • Frame Rate: Always click 'Don't Change' if prompted

Cutting and Trimming Clips

  • Cut down to important or funny moments
  • Aim for at least 8 minutes for YouTube monetization
  • Blade Tool: Press 'B' to cut, 'A' to select
  • Adjust duration: Drag arrows on the clip edges
  • Deletion: Select clip and press 'Backspace'
  • Zoom: Press 'Ctrl +' to zoom in, 'Ctrl -' to zoom out
  • Snap Tool: Facilitates easier dragging of clips

Detaching and Unlinking Audio

  • Link Selection Tool: Detach or unlink audio from clips

Adding Backgrounds and Text

  • Solid Color: Add backgrounds

Adjustment Clip and Inspector

  • Adjustment Clip: Apply filters to multiple layers
  • Inspector: Adjust zoom, position, etc.
