hey there I'm sponic and today I'm going to be going over my whole editing workflow if you don't know me I freelanced for Youtubers with over 50,000 subscribers not the flex but I'm pretty good at this I'm a believer that knowledge like this shouldn't be locked behind a pay wall so I'll be teaching you how to edit like me I'm going to be teaching you some tips and tricks and also give you a general knowledge on how to edit gaming videos however you could also use this knowledge to edit whatever you want let's get started I use a program called The Venture resolve to edit I'll put in the link in the description it's basically a free alternative to the paid programs out there it's slowly becoming an industry standard anyways so no need to worry about if it's good to use Da Vinci also offers a paid studio version but only professionals really use it and even I don't to install click free download now then I would preferably download the newest version of Da Vinci and then fill out some information you could also put random stuff for too it doesn't really matter all right now that's done let's make a project once you got Da Vinci installed you'll see your project Library no need to worry about the other stuff simply click new project now you'll get a confirmation screen asking you if you actually want to make the project I also recommend you to always name your project too once you're ready click create right now we have a blank project but that's okay we're going to make this better so first off if you're a complete beginner you may be wondering what am I even looking at don't worry that was my reaction to Da Vinci is split up into seven tabs and each one of them has their own purpose but 90% of the time you'll be using the edit tab this is where you'll be doing all your editing it's it's pretty self-explanatory so we need to drag in some media you could open your files and drag in your media into your media pool however there's an easier way to do this this huge empty space over here is called your timeline think of it like a video player you can just drag your clip into the timeline also if it gives you a pop-up window saying change project frame rate always click don't change now that we have our clip our first step is to cut it down we want to cut down the most important or funny moments anything that you would find entertaining works also try to include some filler but not too much if you have YouTube in mind the longer the video the better be sure to make your video at least 8 minutes long once you're monetized you can put a midad roll on there so how exactly do I cut down the video you may be thinking go to the cut tab though you could still cut Clips in the edit Tab and it's actually easier let me show you to cut a video we need to use a blade tool the blade tool allows you to cut anywhere you want to access the blade tool click over here or you could just press B which is what I do now that you have your blade tool selected to cut a video just click on it it's that easy now to select your clip go to the selection tool or for easier access you can press a now we can select our clip if you hover over the left or right of your clip you should see little arrows by holding down and dragging the arrows you should be able to change the duration of your clip additionally to move your clip just click and drag if there's a gap click it and also click backspace you could also select a clip and click backspace to delete a clip as well to zoom in press contrl Plus on your keyboard and to zoom out press contrl minus you can also use a scroll bar as well as these three buttons over here let's split our video again I want to show you something if you want to combine two clips simply right click and press new compound clip you don't really have to give it a name but if you want to you can next hit done and there we go all right let's split our clip again last time I promise now let's drag it to the right if we turn on this tool called snapping it allows you to drag your Clips easier just like this always use a snapping tool if you want accurate Precision just a few more things you need to learn about the cutting process let's say you want to detach all your audio simply click the link selection tool this will make it so all your audio is detached just like I said if you would like to unlink certain Clips just click your clip and uncheck link Clips there's also this handy tool called the markers tool you place a marker just tap on it and now if you want to go back you could always see the marker you could also change the color over here now here's some keyboard commands I didn't go over let's say you make a mistake how do you go back it's easy just press crl Z and to redo press contrl shift Z to duplicate click your clip and hit option or you can do crl c contrl v and finally to pause anything in D Vinci you could easily press space and that's all for cutting but there's still a little bit more I need to go over once you're done cutting make sure everything is the way you want it like I said before be sure to make your Clips entertaining and funny to keep your viewers attention also make sure all unnecessary silence is cut out now let's actually go over the editing stage so I know you clicked on this video to learn how to edit but you can't exactly teach someone that you see how you edit is called your editing style it can take months even years to develop your own editing style and it could take you just as long to fluently copy other people's editing Styles but don't let that discourage you it took me about about a year of weekly practice to be where I am right now and if I could get there you can too and here's how I did it first I would analyze what makes up the editing style of your favorite YouTubers is there any specific thing that they do often I would overview this and see if I could apply it to my editing next compare see what you got right or wrong and see how you can improve to work for other YouTubers editing styles are a necessity the editing director will tell you how they want the style to be and you must be able to replicate it flawlessly if you see a Channel with multiple editors just note that it's always the editing style that's keeping the video together seamlessly now let's get back to editing while I can't show you how I edit exactly I can give you a few tips and tricks first let me go over the most crucial things you need to know I'm sure you know how the media Pool Works already so it's time to go over something new effects you could find effects next to Media pool right over here effects are well cool little things you can put on your video clip to spice it up now let's drop in a cross dissolve you could use the cross disolve effect to fade in and out of your clip now it would will look like this you could use the sliders to adjust the effect you could also use all these other effects right over here there's a lot of them there's also these effects called filters you could use without having to pinpoint where you want it let's drag in a gosan blur now you could see the video is blurry you could also change the variables of the effect over here and this works with any of the filters here's one of my favorite filters called the camera Shake now if we play it the video is shaking you can adjust the shake by using PTR speed and speed scale but let's say you want to copy one filter or effect to another how do you do that just hit control C on the clip and right click on the second clip now you should see a tab that says paste attributes now you want to paste the attributes that you want and hit apply then if we come over here the video should be shaking too now let's delete everything I want to show you something new you could add a background by searching up solid color let's drag that in now just click it go to generator and now you can pick the color let's go with the blue over here next click okay also you may be wondering how do you add text just search Text Plus and effects then we can drag it in let's put this over the solid color we can custom the text over here we can change the size Etc we can also change the font to add an outline go to shading and then go to two and press red outline enable now we have an outline we can change the thickness by going to thickness we can change the color by scrolling down and selecting this let's pick black for now that's how you add text the most common fonts used in gaming videos are these so be sure to use them in your videos additionally I'll have them in the link in the description let's go over another Effect called The Adjustment clip let's drag it in if you drag a filter effect on the adjustment clip it'll change it for all the layers it's just a neat trick to know now we can move on to the inspector to go to the inspector just go to video over here the inspector makes it so you could change things about your clip you change settings such as the zoom position and more the inspector is something that you should know about it's just something nice to know most of the variables on here are self-explanatory so you don't really need to learn anything new you could also use some of the inspector tools over here but I don't really use them too much you also may be wondering what are the little diamonds over here represent representing it represents key framing what is key framing key framing is basically pinpointing where you want to animate your clip for example I can put a key frame here but to actually make it work we need to put another key frame somewhere so I'll just put it here now let's Zoom it up a bit now you see we have a key frame animation anything that has a diamond symbol you could do this with if you would like to reset something just click reset over here anytime you see the reset icon you can reset something since we're editing gaming videos I'd make sure every moment of your video is engaging make sure to zoom in on important moments and if you're stuck always look at other videos for reference now before we move on to exporting our video I want to move on to audio something I haven't gone over so evinci resolve has it own little panel for recording voiceovers while recording voiceovers isn't something that happens often it comes in handy all we need to do is go in the falite tab now this may look even more complicated than the edit tab but don't worry it's simple to record we need our input just click where it says no input and press input then choose your mic then click patch to start recording all we need to do is press record over here and then once we press over here we'll be recording this is the tab to mute it so always be careful of that now exporting our video is really easy all you need to do is Click deliver name your clip choose the location go to YouTube and then click add to render queue and once you're ready click render all and it should be good to go hopefully you learned something new I tried to make this video as easy to learn and entertaining as possible editing takes a long time to learn and even longer to develop a sense of style but I trust you got this feel free to leave a comment down below if you found this helpful and be sure to subscribe for more videos like this till then peace [Music]
