Hey guys, welcome to the third exercise of Autodesk Fusion 360 Advanced Tutorial. In this video, I am going to be showing you how I designed this knuckle joint using Autodesk Fusion 360. This assembly is consisting of three components joined together. And here are these three components. Here are the dimensions of the assembly and the tools and commands we are going to use in this tutorial.
Let's get started. If you guys have any suggestions and recommendations, please let me know in the comment section. So, without wasting time, let's get into it.
First, create a new design by going to File, Select New Design. Go to Document Settings. and change the unit to millimeter. Create a new component and give it a name Form.
Keep it active. Click OK. Create a new sketch on the top plane. Draw a center point rectangle from the origin and give it a dimension of 95 by 202.5 mm2.
Delete these two construction lines. Go to center diameter circle and draw it on a point horizontally aligned with the origin and give it a diameter of 45 millimeter. Draw another circle of diameter 95 millimeter. Go to sketch dimension select this center and this line and give a distance between them 75.5 millimeter. Draw a two point rectangle.
Select the first point as this quadrant of the circle and second point somewhere outside of this rectangle and give it a width of 45 millimeter. Now draw a center point rectangle horizontally aligned with the origin on this point. Select the corner point beyond this circle and give it a width of 42 millimeter.
Go to trim and trim out these unnecessary portions. I'm going to fast forward this part. Here is my sketch ready.
Finish sketch. Go to Extrude and select these two profiles. Extrude them symmetrically up to 40 mm. The body will be extruded up to a total distance of 80 mm. Select this face and create a new sketch on it.
Draw a center diameter circle on a horizontally aligned point with the origin. Give it a diameter of 30 mm. Draw another circle from the same origin of diameter 75 mm.
Select this circle and this line. and make them tangent. Now draw a two point rectangle. Select the first point on this circle and the second point outside the body.
Go to sketch dimension. Select this edge. Give it a length of 42 millimeter. Now go to coincide, select this corner and this circle so the point and the circle will be coincided.
Finish sketch. Now go to extrude and select these profiles. Drag them inward.
Change the operation type to intersect and press ok. Go to fillet, select these edges. and fillet them up to 10 mm. Repeat fillet.
This time select these edges and fillet them up to 40 mm. Now select this face and create a new sketch on it. Draw a center diameter circle on this corner.
Repeat the same step for other three corners. Finish sketch. Go to extrude.
Select these profiles and extrude them inward up to minus 45 millimeter. Go to fillet again. Select these curves and fillet them up to 5 millimeter. Now create a new cylinder on this face. and fillet them up to 40mm.
Turn on the visibility of the fork. Select this face and create a new sketch on it. Draw a center diameter circle of 21 mm.
Go to Rectangular Pattern. For the object, select this circle. Drag it in this direction up to minus 45 mm and number of items 2. Again repeat the same step here.
Drag this up to minus 42 mm and number of items 2. Finish sketch. Go to extrude, select these profiles and extrude them inward up to minus 45 mm. So the profile should be cut from the body. Go to fillet, select these curves and fillet them up to 5 mm. Create a cylinder on this surface of diameter 30 mm. and height 45 mm. operation join click OK. go to fillet and fillet this edge up to 5 mm. here is our eye rod ready.
go to main assembly. create a new component and give it a name pin. keep it active click ok. select this plane and create a new sketch.
Draw a center die circle from this center give it a diameter of 30 millimeter. Draw another circle from the same center of diameter 45 millimeter. Go to Extrude, select this profile, drag it inward up to minus 130 mm. Click OK.
Now turn off the visibility of the previous sketch by going here. Select Extrude and extrude the selected profile up to 15 mm. Operation Join.
Click OK. Click on the top view. Now create a hole on this cylindrical face.
Give it a diameter of 7 mm, drill point flat and change the extent to all. For the reference, select this surface. and give a distance of 15 mm.
Click OK. Here the hole has been created on the cylindrical face. Turn off the visibility of previous sketch.
Go to main assembly. Create a new component and give it a name, Washer. Keep it active, click ok. Select this face and create a new sketch.
Draw a center dia circle from the geometric center and give a dia of 45 mm. Finish sketch. Go to Extrude, select this profile and extrude it up to a distance of 12 mm. or 15 millimeter. Click OK.
Go to main assembly. This time I'm going to show you how to create a component from a body without creating the component at first. Create a new sketch on the top line.
Draw a center dia circle of 6 millimeter. Draw another circle from the same center of dia 8 millimeter. Finish sketch.
Select the Move option and change the Move object to Sketch Objects. Select the outer circle and move it upward up to 45 mm. Go to Loft, select these two profiles and click OK. Now this is not a component. We have to put it under an component.
So create a new component. This time select from bodies and for the body select this one. Click ok. Double click on the component to rename it and give it a name.
Tap up in. Press enter. Here is our component ready. Now all our components are not joined together.
We have to assign some joints between them. But before that we have to ground our fork so that our fork won't move where the other components can be easily moved. Now go to joint.
It is asking that some components have been moved whether I want to capture the position or not. Click capture position. For component 1 select this cylindrical face of I dot.
For component 2, select this cylindrical face of form. Change the motion type from rigid to revolve. Here our body is revolving on the right axis.
So click ok. Now you can see that our two bodies are overlapping on each other. So we have to assign some angles between them. Right click on the joint on history tabs and select edit joint limit. Turn on minimum and maximum option.
give it an angle of 120 degree. Our maximum angle has been changed to 120 degree so put a minus sign in front of minimum. Animate it.
Here our component is rotating properly so click OK. It's time to assign another joint. Capture position. Select this face of pin and this cylindrical face of our fork. Change the type from Reward to Slider.
Click OK. Again go to Edit Joint Limit. Keep a minimum and maximum distance. For minimum, select this arrow and drag it outward up to 130 mm and change the minimum to 0 mm. Animate it.
It's working properly. Click OK. Go to joint again. Select this cylindrical face of washer and this cylindrical face of core.
Our component is inside the another component. So flip it. Click OK.
Go to edit joint limit. Turn on minimum and maximum. drag this arrow outward and make the minimum 0 and maximum 90 millimeter animate it. it's working properly.
click OK. and last joint is for the taper pin. go to joint again. for component 1 select this face and for component 2 select the cylindrical face of our pin. drag it up to a distance here.
click ok. go to edit joint limit. Turn on maximum and minimum and adjust them as per your requirements. Press enter. Here it is. Now all our components are joined together.
It's time to give some color. Press A for appearance. Go to paint, metallic and I am gonna use the yellow and black color.
And white color for the paint. Here is my knuckle joint ready. Thank you guys for watching this video. If you like this video, hit the like button and don't forget to subscribe to our channel. See you in the next video.
