this video is sponsored by Carver Vertical don't forget to use my promo code high peak for 20% off each and every check that you do [Music] hello and welcome back to more High Peak well luxury SUVs are probably my favorite type of car you know these were cars that once cost 80 90 £100,000 and now thanks to depreciation you can pick them up for a fraction of that of course it's not all good news though there are some compromises although these cars can now be bought quite cheaply you do have low MPG high road tax high insurance so there are some downsides but let's not dwell on that because I still think there are some pretty good bargains out there to be had so in today's video we're going to go through five luxury SUVs that I've either owned or reviewed for around £5,000 some of these are genuinely interesting first up then number one on this list is the Porsche Cayenne now the Porsche Cayenne has been around since 2003 and that first generation ran until 2010 now the one I'm talking about buying today is the facelift so these were facelifted in 2006 so if you're in the UK you're looking for like a 56 wrench the one featured in today's video is a late 2007 and these can be bought for well under £5,000 in fact I'm currently on the lookout for one and I'd like to make it into a bit of a bit of an off-road expedition vehicle i'd like to put a tent box on the top fit it with chunky tires and just I don't know go anywhere with it the downside with the Cayenne is that you do have high running costs so all the engines are quite thirsty they do a 3.6 L V6 which is quite thirsty or a 4.8 8 L V8 they did offer it with a diesel a 3 L turbo diesel which is a bit more efficient but it's still in the highest road tires category let me show you this Cayenne then this was a 3.6 V6 and it was quite a nice example all right guys how's it going welcome back today I'm in a 2007 Porsche Cayenne i'm quite excited about this one because I've always been a fan of the Porsche Cayenne ever since it was launched way back in 2003 it's really hard to believe that this car has been around for 17 years now but anyway this is a 2007 model which is a facelift but I'll get into that in a second the Cayenne followed in the footsteps of the BMW X5 in that it was a a sporty SUV it really put the the S in SUV when it came out lots of car fans didn't like the Cayenne they slated it lots of Porsche geeks sorry there's no other real word lots of diehard Porsche fans thought that it watered down the brand somehow i never really understood that i think Porsche were ahead of the ahead of the curve with the Cayenne they could see the way the SUV market was going and acted fairly quickly porsche have sold millions of Cayens's in those 17 years and it's really been a good money spinner for the Porsche company it's thanks to this car that Porsche is now back in the black i think they really hit the nail on the head with the Cayenne they stole sales from Mercedes Range Rover BMW it really was very successful lots of people didn't like the styling either now I can sort of see where they're coming from the fact that Porsche tried to sort of make the front end look like a 911 doesn't really work but I like it i don't think it's ugly i think it's quite imposing it looks looks expensive and rich i mean if you think about it every single manufacturer has their signature front end that they put on all all cars mercedes BMW even Kia everybody does it so why shouldn't Porsche if their 911 front end is what they want to put on all their cars who are we to judge i particularly like the side profile of these Cayens's especially the ones with the roof rails like this in black especially i think in the black color with the silver roof bars and the silver alloys just kind of it just works this is a late 2007 facelift model the early models uh from 03 to06 have different style headlamps there are a few other subtle differences and they do look a little bit dated nowadays so I think if you're in the market for a Cayenne you really ought to look for a a facelift model i think the tail lights of the original Cayenne in particular do look a little bit dated now as is the way with all Porsches the interior quality is excellent everything you touch and press feels feels solid and overengineered the quality of the leather on the seats is is thick and soft and expensive and this car is now 13 years old and there's even there's no wear on the leather seats so they've they've held up well you just get the impression that Porsche have put a lot of thought into everything even the key for example which looks like a miniature Porsche you don't see Renault doing that do you if they did they'd have to make a key with a liftup bonnet if you go for a high-spec model which is what I would recommend you get every possible extra that you could ever need i've got heated electric seats satnav air conditioning cruise control multi-function steering wheel the Bose audio is very good too and I definitely recommend that the seats are some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in they're supportive but also really quite quite soft and comfortable the interior space is quite good too even though this car is black on black it still feels quite bright and airy inside i like the sporty handles you get here near the gear lever and there's still plenty of space around you it's not as closeting as a Range Rover Sport but it's also not as open in area as a Mercedes ML so I think it's just right the boot is a very good size it's the same sort of space you get in a BMW X5 or a Mercedes ML performance-wise this model is a 3.6 6 L V6 and it produces 290 horsepower which sounds quite impressive but in reality it's quite a heavy car so it's not the quickest thing you've ever driven but it's it's adequate I would describe it thankfully though the Kayn handles really well so you should still enjoy driving it even if you got the base model you can pick these cars up from as little as £3,000 now I'm not suggesting that you go out and buy a £3,000 Kayen because you're probably just buying a headache there but if you got a budget of 10 you will get a late facelift model with sensible mileage it's an awful lot of car for the money this is what kind of excites me most about used cars because you can pick up a car like this that once cost £50,000 for under 10 yes you can have slightly higher running costs but that sort of goes without saying doesn't it i'd rather drive this every day for £8,000 than a Toyota Yaris maybe that's just me but I'm sure I'm not on my own today's video is sponsored by Car Vertical now before you hand over any cash for a used car or motorbike it's really important that you do a thorough vehicle history check otherwise you just don't know what you're buying a car might look okay on the face of it but until you do a thorough vehicle history check you really don't know what's lurking beneath i've been using Carver Vertical now for years and every single car you can see on the forcourt I've checked using Carver Vertical all you do is head over to carvertical.com and type in the regge or the VIN and then it produces a very detailed report so it tells you whether it's ever been stolen written off had a mileage roll back or has a standing finance on it in addition to that it shows you the MOT history the ownership changes the spec of the car the average market value and a whole lot more it doesn't just work in the UK either it works in 35 different countries so before you complete your purchase of your car or motorcycle make sure you do a thorough vehicle history check first using Carver Vertical if you use my promo code High Peak that's High Peak all one word hi GH Pak you'll save yourself 20% off each and every check that you do or alternatively click the link below in the video description right enough of that because it's a Porsche we need to talk about performance this is the base model 3.6 they also do a 4.8 and they do a 4.8 twin turbo in the turbo model the performance of the KN Turbo is mind-blowing you just can't believe that something so big and heavy can move so quick but if you buy the turbo you'll only be getting 15 or 16 m per gallon which is a bit of a stomach turning thought for a lot of people whereas with this you're going to average 22 23 and it's quite quite tolerable on a run you'll probably get 26 or 27 m per gallon and the V6 engine though is very nice the prefaceelift models were given a choice of a 3.2 L V6 a 4.5 L V8 or a 4.5 L turbo in the in the Cayenne Turbo now those prefaceelift 4.5 V8s the naturally aspirated ones suffered with bad engines i've seen lots of adverts selling cheap 4.5 V8s because the balls are scored and they it causes a sort of tapity engine on the top end so I would steer clear of the 4.5 the 4.5 turbo although it's it's still a 4.5 isn't the same block it used a different block on the turbo so if you fancy a V8 you're actually better off going with the turbo while we're on the subject of the early Kayn's they suffered with poor coolant hoses now a lot of people by now especially have replaced those with uh metal ones but just make sure that's been done cuz the plastic hoses can crack and then it causes overheating issues they did also offer this generation KM with a 3 liter turbo diesel but it's still in the highest tax bracket in the UK the same as the petrols and in terms of miles per gallon you're only going to benefit an extra two or three MP gallon so what's the point really and they're an extra couple of grand to buy in the first place so you're better off using that couple of grand to buy some more fuel for the base model V6 but that's just my opinion another good thing about the base model V6 is that it doesn't have complicated air suspension which can often go wrong they are great to drive these CN the steering is almost perfect there's not much body roll for a big heavy car which is quite a surprise they just feel quite light and agile if you're in the market for a used Cayenne I would recommend you go for a high-spec model i've been in a few poorly specs and they're about as well speced as a Cave that's really not what you want from your luxury SUV you want everything or at least I do i would say heated seats Bose audio and a multi-function steering wheel are a must this one's got satnav too and it's quite an old unit it's not touchscreen or anything and it does feel a little bit outdated the quality of the display is quite good but it does feel a little ancient in fact it still lists Winchester as the capital of England so yeah prices start at around £3,000 if it was me I'd spend 7 or 8 and get an early turbo but if you're worried about fuel you're probably better off going for a facelift V6 like this one this one's done 110,000 mi it's a late 2007 and it's worth around £8,000 so yeah if you got a budget of 10 grand you could buy something like this for 8 or 9 and keep a grand or 1500 quid back for any repairs as long as you find one though with good service records that's had its oil changed regularly and make sure it's had its gearbox serviced you should be fine they're a chain driven engine so there are no belts to replace but yeah if you're after an early one just like I said before make sure the um the coolant hoses have been replaced i've just had an oil and filter change on this and an MOT and it cost about 120 quid so servicing costs really won't break the bank i'm sure if you went to a Porsche main dealer who knew how to charge they might give you a massive bill but there are plenty of good independents out there i've always liked this generation Cayenne even now 13 years on it still looks like it's got something about it it's got a bit more bit more of a wow factor than an X5 too mainly that's just cuz of the badge I think but still feels a little bit more special than an ML or or an X5 as much as I love Range Rover Sports if it was this or an early sport I think I'd go with the Cayenne because the interior is a little bit nicer when you take these cars out into the country roads they come into a world of their own because they corner really flat i mean you can almost go around these corners at any speed you like well that was the Porsche Cayenne it just blows my mind that you can get such a car for that sort of money if you have a look on Facebook Marketplace or eBay you'll find dozens of them for under £5,000 in terms of reliability they're not too bad either right next on the list then is the Audi Q7 now I was never a big fan of the Audi Q7 when it came out back in 2006 but the fact you can pick these up for well under £5,000 it does make them quite appealing not only is it big luxurious and capable it's also available with seven seats so it's quite practical too again a bit like the Cayenne they're in the highest road tax bracket and all the engines are thirsty most of the engines here in the UK are the 3 L V6 turbo diesel which is a pretty good engine however it is still quite a thirsty motor i filmed this next review about four years ago and they did cost an awful lot more money but now you can pick up loads of examples for well under £5,000 all right guys how's it going welcome back so I was looking through my list of videos that I'd done the other day and I realized that the majority of the videos I've done all feature cars that I actually quite like cars that I would recommend to people but life's all about balance isn't it yin and Yang so I thought it was about time that I did a video on a car that I didn't particularly like so welcome to today's car today I'm in a 2010 Audi Q7 and I've never really been a big fan of the Q7 although I did actually own one for about 6 months but that turned out to be one of the least favorite cars I've ever owned the Audi Q7's been around since 2006 and Audi were actually quite late to the SUV party mercedes BMW Porsche they'd all beaten them to it so to try and counter their fashionably late arrival Audi just seem to make the the brashest boldest biggest SUV of them all to try and get people's attention the model I'm in today is a 2010 which is a facelift model which does look far better than the 07 model I had so the facelift version gets nicer lights nicer grill a better engine nicer rear lights but it's still not a pretty car it's longer than a cross channel Ferry it sort of looks like an Audi A6 that's been squashed in a vice the front end's all sort of all squashed looking the rear end is all bulbous and a bit Kardashian the rear doors are too long too big too slabsided try opening one of these rear doors in a tight car park space you just won't do it as hard as I try I just can't find a nice angle of this car i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder so just cuz I don't like it doesn't mean that everybody else doesn't or shouldn't but I just don't think it's a very good-look car it's worth keeping in mind that this is a sevenseater and a lot of SUVs aren't so if you do need those two extra rear seats you'll probably tolerate its dodgy appearance also with those two rear seats folded flat the boot is enormous far bigger than any of its rivals it's huge and the seats are easy to fold up or down so it's got something going for it because it's such a vast car interior space is excellent there's loads of headroom loads of leg room visibility is excellent there's plenty of storage too you get two cup holders you get bottle holders in the door cards plenty of storage areas it's got everything that you'd need so it's been designed quite sensibly rear legroom's very good too although the third seat you'd have to be quite thin to find that comfortable so I'm about to get on a dual carriageway if I floor it it does have some get up and go this car i've got a 3 L turbo diesel which produces 245 horsepower and the I drive cars all day long whenever I hear a beat like that I just automatically assume it's the engine warning light or something like that where somebody's traded in a dodgy car that they're just trying to get rid of anyway that wasn't that was a speed warning but my point is it just accelerates it's quick it just feels like it's in a rush all the time and what's more impressive is the gearbox the ride is superb for two reasons because it's so big and because it's got air suspension it just absorbs all the bumps it irons out every little ripple in the road and you're left with a pretty much unrivaled ride quality i think really this car was designed for American Boulevards rather than tight British country roads it's big it's brash it's obnoxious you'll often see these dumped on double yellows while the Canada Goose coatwearing owner trots off for a latte it's conspicuous and arrogant and I don't really like that you could argue that a Range Rover is conspicuous too but the Range Rover makes up for it in charm and charisma and the Q7 doesn't this one has the 3 L turbo diesel engine and it produces 245 horsepower the early ones from ' 06 to09 had the same 3 L engine but they only produced 230 and they were very thirsty those early engines i couldn't believe how bad my 07 Q7 was on fuel you'd expect a diesel engine to be quite frugal and that wasn't that was thirsty in my opinion if you're looking for a Q7 you should buy a 2009 onwards which is the facelift version because not only does it look better but the diesel engine's better as well you get an extra 15 horsepower and they've managed to improve economy they also did several petrol models you could buy a 3.6 petrol or a 4.2 petrol they also did a 4.2 L diesel and they also did a V12 diesel which cost nearly £100,000 from new which I've never even seen i don't think anybody bought them you'd have to have been an idiot a rich idiot to buy one of those V12 diesels most people in the UK went for this 3 liter turbo diesel which is the pick of the bunch I think because it provides enough performance sensible economy it's not too noisy it's easy to live with so obviously this Q7's four-wheel drive that's what the Q stands for it stands for quattro so it uses Audi's world famous quattro four-wheel drive system so you'd think it would be very good off-road wouldn't you well it's not really it was designed more for the streets of Wilms than driving over a plowed field so it can't match Discovery's capability off-road because there's no low range there's no terrain response system so try and keep it on the tarmac you might think I've been a bit negative so far but I can't fault the way it drives it's so pleasant and easy to drive it's powerful it's quick the gearbox is smooth it's refined the steering's vague and completely lacking in any feel to be honest but it's very light which makes parking this huge thing a dodle if you can find a parking bay that's big enough of course the steering wheel is quite small so it actually makes it feel more sporty but for a vast 7 seat 4x4 it's very easy to drive very nice to drive actually it's far nicer to drive than a Land Rover Discovery or a Volvo XC90 i must admit that the interior is lovely too it's what Audi's are famous for yes it's a bit clinical but that's not such a bad thing it's got every extra that you'd need and it's laid out sensibly it's luxurious too with leather everywhere one thing I don't like about the interior design layout is where they've placed the MMI controls they're right here next to the armrest which makes sense because you can control them while you're resting your arm on the armrest but they've also placed it right next to the cup holders so if you spill your drink on those buttons it'll seep through fry the circuit board and then you've got no sound no screen nothing that happened on my old 07 Q7 when I bought it the screen didn't work the sound didn't work it was just dead but all the buttons were sticky as if somebody had spilt a can of Red Bull on it and that's exactly what had happened so I had to take all this apart and replace the circuit board which was quite expensive so that's a bit of a poor design i think they could have put the controls sort of further away from the cup holders or move the cup holders there anyway nothing's perfect so move on another thing that I don't like about the interior is the climate control buttons they're just too fiddly and too fussy you've got this twisted dial here which controls the temperature it controls the temperature of the heated seat it controls the fan speed and it controls the direction of where the air is coming from and it's too much you've got to keep selecting which buttons to press before you can anyway it's just too complicated i mean don't get me wrong I figured it out i'm not a complete imbecile but it's just too fussy too complicated so the model I'm in today is an SE they also do an S-line which looks a bit better you get bigger wheels which ruin the wide sound like Jonathan Ross which ruin the ride this one's the SE so it's got smaller wheels and the ride is excellent reliability wise they're pretty good too yes they've got air suspension but I've never heard of them failing like they do on a Land Rover or Land Cruiser i'd recommend getting the gearbox service when it gets to about 100,000 miles but I say that with everything they can chew through tires as well but you're going to get that with a car of this type because it's so heavy they've tried to make it sporty it just will chew through tires but I suppose that all depends on your driving style and the the brand of tire that you buy but tires can be quite expensive they have a timing chain rather than a timing belt so that should never need to be replaced as long as you change your oil regularly that should last the lifetime of the car but if for some reason you do have to change the timing chain it's a it's a pain in the neck it's an engine out job because the timing chain's right at the back of the engine near the bulkhead and access is just well there isn't any one stupid design is the location of the 12vt battery it's under the front seats which is a pain in the backside to change the battery what should be a 10-minute job is like a two-hour job one problem that I've had recently with Audi's is the MMI system the multimedia system can fail which requires you to change the the control unit which sort of looks like a CD changer and it's usually in the glove compartment i've just noticed on this model it's um it's in the center stack there but they're expensive and trying to find one used is uh is tricky it's not something you'd expect to fail on a modern Audi so that's one thing to watch out for if you're buying an Audi just make sure all the audio in the entertainment system all works properly you can pick up Q7s here in the UK from around £5,000 but if your budget can stretch to 10 you'll get a decent one you don't hear much engine noise either in the cabin so it's quite well insulated don't get me wrong you can tell it's a diesel because it sounds quite grally but it won't make your ears bleed they ran this model all the way to 2014 which is another good thing about the Q7 because it still looks current if you were to stick a private regge on this it would look like a 20 grand car so road tax is £500 a year if you get the facelifted diesel engine you'll average 25 mp gallon if you get the early one you'll only average 20 insurance- wise they're in the same group as the X5 or the ML so that shouldn't cost you a fortune one thing to mention it's got a 100 L fuel tank so to brim this thing with diesel will cost you £130 but so will a Range Rover so will an X5 so will a Porsche Cayenne it's just one of those things if you want to drive something like this with this much space and this much luxury that's just one of the costs unfortunately the air suspension setup's quite impressive too because on these twisty country roads it corners really flat feels quite sporty you know what it feels quite nimble on these roads it's easy to forget how big the car is so I never really bonded with my07 Q7 i just found it too big too thirsty too clumsy i didn't really need the extra seats it was all a bit silly a bit pointless i'm a bit conflicted with the Q7 because I don't really like it but it's not a bad car i personally don't like the looks but that shouldn't really put you off buying one because in every other aspect it's very good the sound system's really good as well actually I forgot to mention that this doesn't have the Bose system it's just the standard setup and it's excellent it's a little bit characterless and sterile but what it lacks in character it makes up for in reliability and performance so how's that for a change a car that I don't really like it does have its merits but I'd rather have a Range Rover so that's the Audi Q7 like I say it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's hard to ignore at that kind of price next up then on today's list number three is the BMW X5 now the BMW X5 was a bit of a game changer in the luxury SUV world it came out back in 1999 with the E53 model and it completely shook up this segment you see at the time luxury SUVs didn't handle or drive all that well and then along came the BMW X5 and changed the whole thing the BMW X5 was based on the 5 Series and unlike all the other luxury SUVs this was designed to handle well on road not off it because they're so old now you can pick up examples from as little as £1,500 but I wouldn't really advise you do that i think you're into a whole world of pain but if your budget will stretch to around £5,000 then you'll find yourself a nice second generation from maybe 2010 2011 and that definitely makes for quite an appealing proposition bear in mind now from 2008 onwards the road tax here in the UK was in the reduced bracket so it only cost you £430 a year not £730 so that's quite a saving and also the 3 L diesel isn't too expensive to run anyway let's take a look at this E70X5 that I bought for just £55,000 now I know what you're thinking that's slightly over my £5,000 budget but let's just use it as an example you can pick these up from as little as£3 half grand all right guys how's it going welcome back well I've just had a call from a trader friend of mine who's offered me a car which has piqued my interests it's a 2012 BMW X5 3 L diesel M Sport in carbon black which is one of my favorite colors and I've paid just £5,500 for it so seems quite cheap this is what's known as an E70 now the E70 ran from 2006 until 2013 and it's the second generation X5 i've always liked these i've always liked the X5 in general ever since the E53 came out back in 1999 2000 i've mentioned my love for X5s in many videos so I won't bore you again but they are one of my favorite cars this particular one is a 3 L diesel which is a great engine it's done 125,000 mi which isn't too high really for a 2012 car and it looks like it's in good condition so I'm quite excited to go and collect it had a quick look on Autotrader and I think this will retail for about £8,000 so there should be a fairly decent profit margin if I pay £5,500 it'll no doubt want at least £500 spending on it i'll have to do a service an MOT and whatever else it needs but there still should be maybe 1,500 profit so I think famous last words but I think it should be worth the effort as always I checked it out on Carver Versal and it was all clear so it's never been stolen written off no finance on it none of that stuff so we're all good to go i'm heading to the garage now to get a lift from one of my colleagues to go and collect it so I'll see exactly what it's like very soon i'm hoping desperately that it's all in good order and it isn't a complete dog if it needs thousands of pounds spend on it then my well my profit margin is going to go out the window isn't it hopefully that isn't the case hopefully it's all right anyway I better go and collect it haven't I next time you see me then it will be driving my E70X5 i'll see you in a bit well we're in my new to me 2012 BMW X5 and I'm quite impressed it's quite a good spec this so let me talk you through it we've got satnav we've got reverse camera we've got heated seats we've got head-up display we've got a double pan roof what else we've got air conditioning that works so that's good and yeah it's in quite good condition really it's not without its issues though before I get carried away it needs a full service i'm going to service the gearbox because I had a look through the service history and there's no record of that being done and it's done 125,000 mi so I'll do that um it needs a very good clean it's quite well it looks like it hasn't had a good clean for a good year or so so I'll have to get a full vallet done it's also a little bit loose and knocky over bumps so I suspect we're going to have to replace some suspension arms or bushes or something but apart from that it still feels quite quite sharp really quite responsive the gearbox is changing fine it's quite smooth it pulls well they did different versions of this 3 liter diesel so they did one with a twin turbo a I think they did a triple turbo as well but this is just the the base model so the the standard I think it's a twin scroll actually but anyway is the the basic 3 L D which I think on the bright side is probably the most reliable the ride is a little bit firm as you'd expect on an M Sport X5 you can feel all the bumps but still I quite like it it's also pulling ever so slightly to the right so I'm going to have to get it tracked up and sort the wheel alignment out um but yeah everything else works perfectly well we've got folding mirrors all my windows work like I say air conditioning works we got cruise control so I think this was well worth £55,000 i think I'm just slightly concerned because I know the costs will run away with themselves so for example the full service is going to cost me £350 suspension arms and stuff maybe another 34500 a gearbox service at least 250 so before you know it we'll have spent a a four figure sum but still I'm still convinced there's a little bit of profit in this bodywork wise though that's nearly wasn't very good was it what I was going to say was bodywork wise it's very good it's all very tidy i don't think it needs a buff but it's hard to tell in this weather it's lashing down with rain but it looks looks quite bright and shiny it's currently going through a plate change i haven't actually got any plates on at the moment so I'll stuck my trade plates in the window so we're all legal but I will need to get some plates made up for it um yeah well I'm quite impressed i think I'll park up in my usual spot then i'll give you a full tour brakes are good which is good because we nearly went flying into a BMW X4 [Music] they do drive well these they pull really well right well here will do then it's quite a miserable day today it's done nothing but rain surprisingly you know as well we've only got one warning light on well two now actually but one's my seat belt the other is low fuel but no engine light on right so let me show you around this X5 then cuz it's quite nice i think you'll be pleasantly surprised right then let me give you the full tour see what I mean about it being very dirty everywhere he just wants a good old good old clean really loads of dust in the vents everything's a little bit grubby but we can clean it up i mean the leather seats are in decent condition little bit of wear there on the bolster but not too bad nothing on this upright part just wants a good old vac out really close my OBD port there what have we got here walking guy to Howeth very good um the back seats look like they've never been sat in it's missing its mats and again it needs a a vacuum out but quite a clean car really and yeah look at the color it's the best color this so it's called carbon black which is like a very very dark blue and I think it looks really cool it's always been one of my favorite BMW colors actually it's got these nice M Sport wheels like diamond cut style which they're not in bad condition actually there's a few marks but nothing major the tires are good we've got a Rididge stone on the front on about 3 mil so that's all right it's a 3 L diesel X drive i think that mirror cap there wants painting in fact that looks like it's been replaced at some point with one of a um a different color car it's definitely sort of blue under that that one's painting then we'll do that run this down to Jimmy i think it look better by the time I fitted some plates as well got the nice zenon lights with the um headlamp wash they just look really good these don't they i mean considering this car came out in 2006 I think it still looks really cool now down this side again a little bit of wear on the wheel but not too bad we've got a matching Bridgestone on about 3 mil tread maybe three and a half and it's hard to tell in the wet but the bodywork does look quite good now down here there's no damage to the sill or anything that's all good no dents panel gaps are all good from what I can see little bit of damage to this rear wheel but again not too bad and it's done 125,000 mi so I don't want to go mad with it tire wise we're on a an Infiniti an Infiniti Ecomax which isn't great but it's on about 6 mill of tread little bit of bit of a scuff there to that wheel arch that one's painting really you could just do that bit though couldn't you i think so that won't be dear the lights are good they're not all smashed or cracked or chipped i'm quite happy with this have we got a matching Infinity Ecomax uh oh yeah we certainly do so we got matching tires front and rear brake discs look like brand new so that's good um what about on the fronts fronts are okay as well they're not rusty yeah I'm quite impressed now they did this as a five seat or seven seat car this is only the five seat seven seats are quite good and they're um handy if you've got a couple of extra kids or whatever got the parcel shelf here some looks like fish and chip wrapper paper there um we've got an original BMW load liner in the boot which is always a good sign warning triangles and whatnot aa there a bag it's just just wants a good clean really doesn't it if I was still doing this on my driveway if you spent a Sunday doing this I think you'd be uh you'd be all right we've got a power tailgate as well so what do I need to do to this then full service full engine service a gearbox service um get my mechanic to check it over and check everything's all right give it a good clean paint the mirror cap and that little bit of trim around the uh passenger side rear rear quarter and then ladies and gents I think we've got quite a decent example so if I can spend maybe what does it owe me five and a half right now let me give myself a healthy budget of £1250 so £1,250 budget that would then mean the car would owe me £6,750 and then I think I could probably sell it for £7750 so there'd be £1,000 profit left so I think that's all right it's not to be stiffed out is it just hope they don't find anything else oh I need to sort the um suspension out as well there are a few little knocks and stuff when you go over bumps from the front so hopefully it's just a I don't know track red end or something we'll see we'll see anyway leave this with me for a few days i'll have an update for you very soon see you in a bit and we're back in my cheap BMW X5 which is now fully sorted and ready for sale you probably won't be surprised to hear this but I have massively overspent on this it's an all too familiar story isn't it so after we last spoke I took this down to my mechanic and asked them to give it a full service so full engine service and a clean MOT i also asked them to sort out the knocking suspension that turned out to be two um lower bottom arms or something bottom arms yeah that was it they were quite expensive that job alone cost me £640 so quite a lot of money this is the trouble with this kind of car isn't it nothing's cheap it had its full service and cleanote there also had the wipers replaced then from there I took it to get the gearbox serviced now I took it to an automatic gearbox specialist which is what I'd always recommend either that or a specialist to its brand either you know BMW specialist Mercedes specialist whatever the case may be they drain the old gearbox fluid out change the filter for a new one and then put in new fluid and now it's fully sorted i mean it was fine before or it was always smooth but it done 120,000 mi so you just never know it's a bit of preventative maintenance really i always preach this but when a car's done 80,000 mi 100,000 mi you should always change the gearbox fluid it's one of those things that people often overlook if you call the main dealer they'll tell you it's sealed for life which is nonsense from there then I got about to work and fitted some wrench plates to it if you remember it wasn't wearing any and it looked a bit odd the previous owner had their private plate on it so they took that off with them so now it's back to its West of England 12 plates which look pretty good actually then I took it to Jimmy so he could paint the wing mirror cover so that's all been done and the final job unless I've forgotten something i don't think I am the final job was to get it detailed so I took it to Tameite Detailing for a full thorough valet and it now looks as good as new all those marks and stuff are gone all the grubbiness is gone and it now well you never know you're in a 13-y old car it's come up really good actually sorry i'm forgetting a job here it's been a few weeks so I took it to Quick Fit in Hyde who did a four-wheel alignment for me and sorted the tracking and you know all that sort of stuff out so now it pulls in a straight line and it's true when I picked it up Chris from Quickfit told me it was quite badly out so now they've adjusted it and it's all sorted that was another I think £60 but £60 well spent what we're going to do next then is park up in my favorite little spot somewhere scenic and I'll talk you through my costs but spoiler alert they are substantial i think at the start of this video I said "Oh I'll spend around a,000 pounds on it." Nope that figure went right out the window very easily and very early on still I've prepared this car now to the best of my ability and I'm pretty sure there's a little bit of profit left maybe not a fortune but a little bit i'd run around in this myself you know drives really well the ride's a bit firm being an M Sport X5 but you kind of expect that and of course it's on run flat tires they always ruin the ride don't they right well there's no need for these then because the sun's gone in and somebody's parked to my favorite spots and I've run out of cadar which I'm not happy about anyway right so let me get my Didn't sound good did it let me get my calculator out i'm going to leave the engine running cuz my air condition is nice and cool okay so this car started out life at £5,000 then we've got before I forget the cost of quick fit that was 60 the cost of my number plates were 15 the cost of the valet was 70 then we've got the bills so let's start off with the auto gearbox service that was quite a reasonable £252 so carry out transmission service replacing the sump pan filter and fluid 252 then we've got the £640 12 for the suspension arms then we've got the cost of the full service an MOT and wipers that was £330.90 that's quite reasonable was there anything else i should really make a list shouldn't I i just keep this all in my head and then sometimes it can be weeks or months before I finish this video and then I often forget i think that's it though plates blet tracking oh Jimmy jimmy to paint the wing mirror charged me £30 that takes my grand total on this cheap X5 to bear in mind I paid just 5 half grand for it £6,8982 not great but I'm still fairly confident there's £1,000 profit in this if I could sell it for maybe £7795 it's going to leave me £900 i can claim the VAT back on some of the bills it's not the end of the world is it really we've kept a car going for a bit longer 13y old car which is now nice and serviced and ready for its next owner and hopefully made eight or 900 pounds profit which isn't bad going is it really so overall I'm quite pleased with that just shows you doesn't it if you don't do the work yourself the costs can just run away with themselves so quickly so that was the BMW X5 which is a really solid choice but if you're looking for something slightly cheaper to run I think you'll like this next one we're heading over to Japan for the next one sadly not literally but we're in a 2000 I can't remember what year it was we're heading over to Japan for the next one not literally sadly but we're in a Lexus RX 400h now the 400H is a bit of a favorite of mine this generation Lexus RX came out back in 2003 now this 400H is a hybrid petrol so that of course means you get lower road tax and higher MPG so if you're looking for a luxury SUV that you can run on a tighter budget this might be the perfect one for you all right guys how's it going welcome back today I'm in this 2006 Lexus RX 400h it used a 3.3 L petrol V6 along with a rear electric motor along with a battery pack so it's a hybrid which means well basically it's more efficient than the standard RX 350 i'll get straight to the big question fuel economy whenever I watch a YouTube video on an EV or a hybrid that's the one thing that I'm most interested in if I'm watching an EV I want to know how many miles it'll do truthfully from its battery if it's a hybrid I want to know how much more economical is it is than the standard car a lot of YouTube videos will waffle on for 22 minutes telling me about the boot space and the driving characteristics when really what I want to know is how many miles per gallon will it do so the RX400h will do between 26 and 28 m per gallon that's UK imperial miles per gallon not US by the way so yeah around town it will do between 26 and 28 on a motorway run it'll do between 34 and 36 miles per gallon which isn't brilliant but bear in mind this is a 2006 car and back in 2006 those figures were quite impressive they might not be that impressive in 2020 but yeah 14 years ago they were pretty good in fact it's still pretty good compared to an ' 06 BMW X5 or an '06 Porsche Cayenne all those non-hybrid SUVs like the ML or the X5 or the KN that don't use a hybrid powertrain will only do 18 to 20 miles per gallon around town and maybe 28 or 30 on a run if you drive carefully so they're about 6 to8 m per gallon worse than this RX 400h on top of the fuel saving there are some savings to be made with road tax here in the UK we pay an annual road tax and it's based on the vehicle's emissions so this RX400h costs around £300 a year to tax which is substantially less than the 570 you'd pay for a petrol X5 or KN so in addition to the low running costs and low road tax costs it's actually quite pleasant to drive because well because it's a hybrid it's silent most of the time even when the 3.3 L V6 springs into life it's still quite quiet and refined as I've said before with hybrids the silence becomes addictive so I'm armed with my bags for life so I thought we could take it for a little bit of a drive to the supermarket so you can just hear the V6 engine kick in there as I try and back this off my driveway but I have been sat here for 5 minutes with everything running you get this same display here that you would find in a Prius which tells you where the power is coming from so right now for example the V6 engine is running which is topping up the car battery it's not a plug-in hybrid you don't have to plug it in it just charges its battery from its engine when the battery is fully charged if you drive it sensibly you will get a few miles out of this on electricity alone if you drive it sensibly if you're a little bit heavy with the accelerator then the engine kicks in straight away to assist you and when you do accelerate you do get the nice sound of a V6 bear in mind it's quite a big heavy car this so you will find the petrol engine kicks in more frequently than it does on a Toyota Prius you do get the added bonus though that once you've climbed a hill like I've just done all the way downhill you're just running on electricity and actually while that's doing that it tops up the battery it's quite pleasant to drive though the driving position is very good i'm sat up high visibility is perfect the seats are very comfortable you get a couple of armrests here so the driving position is nice the steering is not too heavy but it's also not too light i mean it's not rewarding if you're a petrol head but for a daily sort of car to run around in it's not bad at all fortunately it doesn't have massive wheels so it doesn't crash around but if you went with bigger alloys it it certainly would see right now the battery is fully charged because I've just driven downhill and topped it all up so right now I'm just cruising around on pure electricity the interior quality is very good i mean this car is a 2006 and it's done 135,000 miles and apart from the odd bit of wear here on the on the driver's door handle and on the armrest it's in pretty good shape also this does have this light beige leather interior which can show up all the marks but it's coped with its age and its miles quite well all of the buttons and the switches feel like they'll outlast you everything works it does make you drive this really sensitively because right now I've just backed off the accelerator because I felt the engine kick in that's the thing with hybrids i don't know whether this is good or not but they do make you quite a slow conscientious driver the infotainment screen there in the center does show its age a little bit it's the same unit that's lifted straight out of the Prius but I mean it still works it's the graphics aren't the sharpest or the best to be honest but it's quite clear and quite easy to use and quite easy to navigate it's got sat nav 2 which is all touchscreen i mean it is showing its age a little bit now but it still works so you get some nice optional extras too for example I've got heated leather seats i've got a sunroof you get cruise control you also get a reversing camera and a power lift tailgate which does beep though which is a bit irritating i mean all those features that I've just rattled off are commonplace in 2020 but back in 2006 it was pretty ahead of its time so we go back to the info screen here see where the power's coming from see right now I'm not using any petrol at all i'm basically just coasting you get plenty of cup holders and storage compartments i like this sensor storage compartment here which opens in a really neat way so you press this button here to open it and then press the other button to close it which I know I shouldn't be in awe of and yet strangely I am i don't know if you do this but whenever I try and get maximum MPG out of my car it all starts well for about 10 or 15 minutes and then some other idea enters my head and I completely forget about the hyper mileing exercise that I was intending to do so in terms of performance the 3.3 L V6 puts out just over 200 horsepower you do get an additional 60 or 70 horsepower from the electric motor so with those two combined when you sting the accelerator there's enough power there in fact I'll demonstrate that now it's not it's not quick but I mean I'm already doing Yeah I'm doing the speed limit there so it's quick enough it's just not it's not rewarding to drive or whatever but I have just lost that Audi A6 that was sat on my bumper for the last two miles that little sprint there though has just taken its toll on my efficiency record see what I mean about getting distracted you can tell it's Japanese though because it is a little bit of a button fest in here there are buttons for everything but I mean I've not found it confusing or anything it's fairly easy to work and straightforward another area where the RX shows its age is the fact that it's got a tape player interior space isn't bad the boot's not a bad size it's not as big as an ML or an X5 or a KN cuz the boot floor is a little bit higher than the rest of those and also the tailgate slopes down at the back so you lose a little bit more space there but overall it's not too bad in terms of the cabin space it's pretty good i've got plenty of headroom plenty of leg room even in the rear i've always quite like the styling of this ERA RX i know it's a little bit bland isn't it it's a little bit magnolia but I think that's one of the reasons I like it it's it's subtle and it's not it's not at all pretentious it just gets on with it it being you know the school run and trips to Waitros it is a very middle class car the RX especially the hybrid i mean there used to be additional benefits to owning a hybrid like this in that you wouldn't pay the congestion charge if you drove into London City Center but that's been scrapped now so everybody pays it unless you're a complete EV I believe so we'll sting it one more time it does have a bit of get up and go this actually it is sort of hamstrung by its weight though but it doesn't feel much slower than a a 3 liter petrol X5 or a 3.2 L KN it has this CVT automatic gearbox now I've mentioned many times before that I'm not a huge fan of those because when you mash your foot on the accelerator all you can hear is the engine struggling and whining but at least with this you don't get a full cylinder engine you get that nice V6 note now when you when you accelerate hard in a Prius or an Orus it makes a right racket but with this I'll try it you get the nice V6 sound which makes the CVT box a little bit more bearable and the CVT box in this actually serves the car quite well because it just adds to that smooth nature you can now pick up used RX hybrids here in the UK from around £3,000 so they're similar in price to a non-hybrid X5 or KN or ML and they do represent better value for money because like I said you'll save or you'll get six or eight miles per gallon more from it and save a little bit of road tax so in terms of reliability it's a Toyota product so it should be pretty good should but there are still a few things that you need to watch out for for example this 3.3 L V6 has a timing belt rather than a timing chain so that needs to be replaced every 90,000 mi so you should factor in between £3 and 400 to get that done also I think the the water pumps can leak and I think the water pumps are driven from that same belt so it would be wise to get the the water pump changed when you do the belt you should service them every 10,000 miles and when I say service I mean replace the oil and filter and the other filters the CVT gearbox I would always recommend getting a service done on that just to prolong its miserable life really but apart from that they are pretty good now some of you might be thinking that's a 14-year-old hybrid eventually the battery pack it will need to be replaced but think of how many of these that will be in scrapyards now so there are plenty of replacement battery packs to be had and there are also companies that specialize in replacing the battery packs so as they get more and more common you can replace the cells in the battery which isn't all that expensive so that's an option and also when the when the battery fails you can still use this as a standard petrol car so it's not like it's going to leave you stranded you might just get the odd warning light flick up one other thing to mention with this era of Lexus the keys always seem to break they haven't done on this one which is surprising because they always seem to crack but luckily for about 20 on eBay you can find a replacement shell it's quite a straightforward job to do in terms of servicing costs and the cost of parts that shouldn't break the bank either because well they're basically Toyota so the parts are plentiful and they're not that expensive so things like brake discs and pads won't cost you an arm and a leg they do turn you into a bit of an old man before your time though these cars because I'm driving this on quite a nice day heading to the supermarket obviously and I'm sat here doing 30 m hour because I've got one eye on the battery trying to charge it up i'm not racing down this road trying to drop a gear and you know overtake things this particular car is a good example of what a 14-year-old RX might look like the lacquer on the wheels is corroded so they've started to peel and they look a bit of a mess now you can get them refurbished well various places for about £50 a wheel the body works held up quite well it's not rusted to bits like a Mercedes would of this era so all in all buying an old RX400h wouldn't be such a bad idea they're not as economical as some might have you believe and they're crap in the snow but apart from that they're pretty good cars well that was the Lexus RX which like I say is a really good competent car and it's cheaper to run the first three feature in this video if you're still after something that's cheaper to run but you want something a bit more modern and a bit sportier or trendier then I think you'll like this last one the last one then is a Range Rover Evoke now the Evoke's been around since 2011 and it kind of created its own segment what this is essentially then is a Range Rover it's really capable off-road and it's quite luxurious on the inside but it's just been shrunk something else that's been shrunk are the running costs so it comes with a 2.2 L turbo diesel which is quite good on fuel and you get relatively affordable road tax now this next one I bought for just £4,000 so let's take a look what it's like all right guys how's it going welcome back well today we're going to pick up a very cheap Range Rover Evoke that I've just agreed to buy and when I say cheap I mean really cheap really really cheap this 2013 Evoke with 126,000 mi on the clock has set me back just £4,000 told you it was cheap it's funny isn't it i know we're in 2025 now so this 2013 Evoke is 12 years old but in my mind it's still a new car haven't actually seen it yet but I'm told it's finished in Orcne gray with all the black bits on it it's a dynamic spec which is quite a good model and that's about it really it's been described to me as needing a little bit of TLC which is a good thing really isn't it cuz I do quite like a project as you well know anyway shall we go and see what a little bit of TLC actually means right I'll see you there well we're here um it looks all right actually it is a good color combination it's missing its A right now it's a uh Range Rover the wheels need refurbishing there's a little bit of duct tape i don't like to see duct tape it's hiding some damage oh well at least the damage is uh is matching on both sides the very bottom part of the um the front arch is just damaged on both the off side and near side how strange it's from Oxfordshire originally although it's on Cardiff car warehouse plates it looks all right that really little bit of damage to the to the front bumper and to the rear bumper from the looks of it wheels are curved and it's missing its A but apart from that does look quite straight really i will put a fresh set of plates on it though i just don't like any car car sort of center that's that calls itself a car warehouse i think it just looks a bit bit cheap right we'll turn this thirsty V8 off while we do a car vertical history check now before you hand over any cash for a used car or motorbike it's really important that you do a thorough vehicle history check i always use a company called Carver Vertical because they're just really thorough and it's really easy to use all you do is go to carvertical.com type in the reg or the VIN now in this case it is Octa Octa Oscar Vixer 13 Foxtrot X-ray Alpha there we go and check vehicle what this does it checks databases in 35 different countries so it isn't just a UK thing so it tells you if it's ever been stolen written off had a mile draw back or hasn't standing finance on it it doesn't take long and it isn't expensive either and it's cheaper still if you use my promo code high peak that's high peak all one word h I g h p e a k and you save yourself a whole 20% off each check that you do right and the report's ready so view reports the mileage has never been tampered with there's no outstanding finance there's no recorded accident damage and it's never been stolen so that's good the last no mileage was 123,000 mi that was in March last year so it will be due another MOT so I'll do that that's no problem my plan with this was to give it a full service anyway full service and a clean MOT the average market price for such a vehicle is £11,800 now bear in mind I've paid just four grand for this i was thinking straight away it's probably an £8,000 car i am fully aware that I'm going to have to spend probably I don't know two grand on it with this sort of mileage it might be due a cam belt now they're due at 10 years or is it 8 years i think it's 10 years or 105,000 miles this has done 126 and I very much doubt it's been done so I'm fully prepared to uh to overspend on this one but I still think there's some profit in it so so yeah should be on to a winner here it's a 2.2 L diesel which is better than the later Ingenium 2 L diesel the 2.2 looks a bit more agricultural um it's quite a reliable quite a reliable motor there are three recorded ownership changes so first one in May 13 then June 16 and then December 20 that's all right then we've got the inspection here it's had a few regge plates you know private plates that sort of thing if we go down to the most recent there are a few advisory items so near side door mirror slightly damaged offside rear anti-roll barbar linkage slight play so it will be a little bit knocky then I imagine near side rear fog lamp lens damaged we'll get a new one of those offside front anti-roll bar ball joint is slight play okay that might need to be done near side front outer arch molding loose hence duct tape right well there's nothing there that's uh really that bad it's all quite quite good news really let's go and have a look around it right let's go and have a look at this evoke then so it looks pretty good actually doesn't it we've also got one two keys which is a good start let's look at the tires then so we've got a a a champ point this is made by a company called Black Lion that genuinely is a new one on me never heard of that before but it's all right treadwise tread wise we're on about 5 mil six mill so that's all right looking down the panels it's quite straight no dents or anything no obvious signs that it's had paint either looks nice and original all the panel gaps are uh exactly how they should be no scuffs that's pretty good so this has got the optional black pack i don't know whether it's just because it's a a dynamic model or what but you've got black bits here instead of silver black door mirrors black uh bars along the roof there and rear privacy so it does look quite um quite sporty really up front then we have got a This tire looks a bit old oh it's a Churchill oh yes on about 4 mil of tread that might need replacing actually does look like quite an old tire so we might stick a new one on there this is from if you look at the date stamp the 5th week of 21 so it's 4 years old this Yeah we've got some duct tape here so that needs addressing i can order some new letters i'll get those off eBay or something they'll only cost me 20 quid order some new plates for it give it a good clean it is quite um quite all right though really this is kind of I think it just looks worse than it is these little marks here I think will buff out in fact they definitely will they're not deep at all it is quite a good color yeah orne gray I think it's called have we got a matching Churchill on this side no we don't we've got a triangle i hate odd tires especially on a four-wheel drive you shouldn't do it really got some damage here to the um to the inner inner wheel arch that might need replacing and yeah I need to run these wheels over to Prestige Wheels in Breadbury and get those refurbished they're curbed all around the outside round the outside like trailer park girls over here then we've got another Champint Black line on the back so the back tires are actually all right we can live with those some scratches here but again I think they'll buff out this could probably do with a a stage one buff at um at Tameside Detailing i'm going to spend a couple of grand on this car i just know it some damage here to the rear what's surprising is some Oh look at this we've got a cracked um fog lamp as well now they're not too expensive thankfully some more damage here it just wants putting back together again doesn't it what I was going to say was I'm surprised with a car that's got cameras everywhere i've just noticed it's got I think it's got a 360 camera here how so much damage has occurred when there are cameras everywhere just incompetence isn't it really i think or a very clumsy driver um it's not too bad though this I'm quite pleased with it so far i mean bear in mind it's a 12-y old car it's not too bad let's open her up then shall we right we need a battery in that fob that doesn't work let's try the other there we go right now we're talking so we've got folding rim uh folding rear mirrors we've got folding mirrors that's an optional extra that's not standard we've got meridian audio that's good we've got a panoramic roof up there with a blind there's a rip here on the edge of the seat i think I'll have to get that repaired i'll get my trimmer to come out and stitch in a new a new panel there we got electric seats the heated seats as well so that's good we've got cruise control yeah it's done 126,000 miles this is typical Land Rover product really the door latches on Land Rover products are naff can't tell you how many Freelander and Evoke door latches I've replaced in my time well that one works it's quite a grubby car this but it will clean up convinced a pencil sharpener there and a um Spurs pen that's why it was cheap i bet we've got some Land Rover headphones there have we got rear media then no we don't ah that's what they're for right this has got one of those satnav screens where it's got you see this little button here there we go it's got one of those split screens so the driver can see the satnav but the passenger can sit and watch TV that's what those headphones are for surprised they're still there actually someone's baby photo there shouldn't show that right both rear door latches don't work lovely i'll replace those then we got a power tailgate that's not It's not quite happy this power tailgate it's got a mind of its own right we've got half a power tailgate and two of the four doors work not bad going is it really having said that it was a very cheap car so I can't complain now let's fire up then now these 2.2 L diesel engines are always a little bit lumpy when they're cold this one's no different it's basically a van engine i think it's the engine they used in the transit service required so we'll give it a full service that's no problem get my heated seat on because it's bloody freezing so automatic i'm also going to get the gearbox serviced i think what I'll do is just bring this car up to uh up to date with everything locking wheels in there that's good now service history where would that be should be should be a book pack somewhere um we've got a kitty seat in the back well I don't know really not sure where my book pack is the blind works that's good let me try and show you this then so we'll go on TV GB News right if we press this little thing should be able to Let me try and show this to you ah there we go right look at this so from the driver's seat we see satnav but from the passenger side how clever is that still blows my mind anyway I'm sure you've all seen that before we've got a CD player what else can I show you that's about it then really do my Windows work one two three four oh we've got memory seats as well this is actually a very big spec we've also got half a tank of diesel it's unusual right so let me pop the bonnet then and see if there's a cam belt sticker somewhere think we'll turn her off cuz it's uh very noisy now I need to track down the service history want to see if it's ever had a cam belt done if it needs to be done we're talking it used to be sort of 350 quid but everything's gone up postco now you're talking about £500 for a new cam belt and water pump well my bonnet struts are all right very grubby under here and I can't see a sticker to say that it's had its cam belt changed orne gray there we go oh I know what we could do actually we'll go on to the um online service history portal for Jaguar Land Rover all you need to do here by the way is go on to well just Google OSH online service history Land Rover and then type in the VIN and this should pull up the uh the online history we just need to type in the chassis number s A L V A sorry this isn't riveting viewing just bear with me a second 79 submit ah okay right last recorded service i think I've had a result here it had Oh look at this renewal of cam belt and an ancillary drive belt perfect that was done at 93,000 mi at Land Ranger service this is a middlewitch well that is a result so it last service was at 93,000 mi that was 30,000 mi ago that's not great but it has had its cam belt done so I'll give it a full service again just bring it up to date well straight away then i'm 500 pounds better off aren't I before that the last service was done at 65,000 miles by Farnell Land Rover in Bur in Bur that was at 65 so it's not exactly full history is it i need to find this book pack because it might have been done you know by some local garage and they haven't updated the online history but at least we know it's had a cam belt done which is a uh a big result really let's get this on the road then shall we see how it drives right we've selected drive i was expecting a a thud as I selected drive but no it's quite smooth right there's quite a to-do list with this car then full engine service two front tires i've noticed my uh near side door mirrors cracked as well that needs replacing sort the cosmetics out on the front and the rear and the rear fog lamp and the rear doors and the buff and the wheel refer see what I mean about me being into 2,000 very quickly drives all right though this by the way is the 2.2 L turbo diesel which I know I've mentioned probably six times by now but they did a TD4 and also an S Oh you're just going are you they did a TD4 and an SD4 now the SD4 was uh a little bit quicker and that's what this model is i think it's a bit more desirable really very cold don't have a heated steering wheel do we i also need to fix the uh the power tailgate this should keep my mechanic busy shouldn't it for a bit a full engine service two new tires and a cleanote is going to be the best part of 500 quid wheel refurbs are 300 quid what else new fog lamp going to be 50 or 60 rear door latches you're probably talking a couple hundred pounds there's something knocking at the back now on the last MOT it advised what was it now some sort of bush or something wasn't it i think that does need to be replaced cuz we are a bit loose back there but it actually drives all right oh I need to service the gearbox as well that's going to cost me about 250 but there's no toe bar so it's never been towing anything brakes are all right gearbox is quite smooth to be fair this is This is all right actually on the bright side I don't have to spend £500 on a new cam belt so that's good yeah that knocking is very annoying i've just realized as well this one has got the um the blind spot monitoring system on the door mirrors so I can't just stick on a a piece of mirror glass can from eBay for five quid needs to be a proper one i can see myself spending £2,000 on this very very quickly my heated seat's getting nice and warm that's good satav works yeah this is all right this really I do quite like Evokes my mom had one for a while my brother's had one i've had loads in stock they're all right it's basically a Freelander 2 underneath but with a slightly more stylish body what we'll do as well actually when it's down at my mechanics is get it up on the ramp and make sure there's nothing else wrong with it check out the brakes check for any leaks all that sort of stuff i mean this is a Land Rover product on 126,000 mi so I do expect some minor leaks and stuff from various places but we'll make sure it's all all good to go to its new home and then I think this could be worth probably eight grand may maybe more i don't know it's a good color it's gonna look the part by the time I'm done with it so I think I'm gonna have to try and recoup my overspend aren't I somehow and then try and profit i must remember that's what this job's all about at the end of the day isn't it profit without profit there's no business that rattle on the back is quite annoying though still it's an awful lot of car for £4,000 isn't it four grand for a Range Rover Evoke who'd have thought it you know one that hasn't been in an accident either leave this with me then because this will take me a good maybe two or 3 weeks before it's ready right first up then my mechanics where it's going to have a full engine service two new tires and a clean MOT along with some new rear bushes door latches and whatever else they find right I'll see you in a bit and we're back in my very cheap Range Rover Evoke which now looks like a million dollars which is funny because it owes me about that honestly I've spent so much on this car it's depressing i've just dug out all my bills and receipts and doesn't make for pretty reading keep in mind I paid just £4,000 for this car i mean £4 grand for all less it sounded like a bargain but it turned out it was too good to be true on top of that it's taken me months i think we're now into maybe 3 months before it's finally ready for sale i've just got it back from the Valaters this morning taking some photographs of it so it's now finally on the website finally for sale and maybe if I'm lucky I might be able to recoup some of my costs i've got this advertised now for $7995 which does look like an awful lot of car for 8 grand trouble is I spent a fortune on it you wouldn't believe so after we last spoke we had a fairly scruffy of oak didn't we my mirror was damaged my reverse camera didn't work the boot didn't open it needed brake discs and pads some of the doors wouldn't open yeah it wasn't a good example really and in hindsight I paid too much for it at £4,000 i probably should have offered like two and a half really this is the trouble and I've got plenty of experience with this sadly you buy a car that needs a lot of work and it's never cheap enough you know if you to buy a property that needed a load of work luckily you've got capital appreciation on your side you know that if it takes 3 months 6 months 3 years even you know the house prices will go up when you're working with cars the exact opposite happens every single month the car depreciates property doesn't do that so it's almost like you're working against the tide when you're working with cars you're fighting an uphill battle still it's now all done and I can sell it with some confidence hopefully I'll just about be able to recoup my money i've had a full service done of the engine i've had a gearbox service i've had the wheels refurbished at Prestige Wheels over in Breadbury they've done a really good job actually they were quite battered which is typical of an Evoke but they now look as good as new i decided to stick with the gloss black finish cuz I think it suits the car i'm not a big fan of black wheels but on certain cars in certain colors it does kind of work and this is one of those cases this car is finished in I think it's stor away gray and it's got all the black bits on so it just kind of helps the black wheels just kind of tie in with everything else i think it suits it so now all that's left to do really is find a nice new home for it quickly what we'll do shortly then is park up somewhere scenic and I'll talk you through my costs now usually when I've got a massive overspend on my hands I advise you pop the kettle on cuz this might take some time but I think in this case you might need a shot of whiskey as well or a shot of brandy or something something just to take the edge off the bad news nice day up here today the sun's shining and the sky is blue right here will do then this will do nicely i've noticed as well there are still a couple of faults with this car so although although my I think the rear doors didn't open I've now got a fault with the passenger front door so that needs to be fixed and also my stereo doesn't come on i think that's just a blown fuse because everything's just dead i'm not out of the woods yet right let's get our calculator out try and get this over and done with quickly it's like pulling off a plaster isn't it i just want to get it out of the way right the car cost me £4,000 um let me get the small stuff out the way first so I fitted some of the reg plates they cost me £25 the detail at Tameside Detailing cost me £70 what else the gearbox service cost me £240 so that had a transmission flush and new fluid and new filter 240 quid perfect my bill at Jimmy the Painters that was £330 he's done me a bit of a deal there so that had a right repair and localized near side bumper corner refix wheel arch trims wash clay bar buff polish wax full vehicle £330 orne gray actually not stone away ornne gray that's a bit of a bargain the biggest bill you ready for this one my mechanic's bill for a full engine service front brake discs front brake pads uh front anti-roll bar drop links offside rear door latch and motor that was £17744 nearside rear door latch and motor that was £174.81 reverse camera was £41 by the way I did look for a secondhand reverse camera but there's no guarantee of the quality so that was £41 fog light that was £84.78 near side mirror glass for a genuine i had to have a genuine one by the way because it's got that blind spot monitoring system in it that was £10727 two new electronic tailgate struts christ they were expensive £59,264 for two new tailgate struts like why not just put Honestly we just complicate things what's wrong with oldfashioned boot struts why do we need a power tailgate mot test fee that was £40 and the labor was £440 so my grand total there was £2310.78 plus the VAT plus the MOT test fee that takes my grand total for this very cheap Evoke to £7,469.93 not so cheap anymore is it and I've still got to pay for a new door latch on the passenger side front and sort out this system which has suddenly crashed on me if I can get eight grand for it though then I might just get my money back maybe might just be able to claw it back this is the problem i recently did a video with an L322 where I said "This sounds really incredibly arrogant but I don't mean it to be it's genuinely good advice don't buy a cheap Range Rover unless you can afford to buy two cheap Range Rovers because every single cheap Range Rover I buy I end up putting the exact same purchase price back into it in repairs and preventative maintenance and all that sort of stuff did it recently with an L322 that I bought for 26 and then spent 2 and a half on it did it recently with another L322 that I bought for £1,600 then spent £1600 on it vet 9 I paid £1250 for that then spent £1250 on it my Jivveny green Range the list endless honestly the Jiny Green Range Rover I bought for £3,100 then spent £3,100 on it so yeah unless you can afford to buy two Range Rovers don't buy a Range Rover i've always preached this from day one if you're going to buy a cheap Range Rover make sure you have a few grand tucked to one side in sort of a a rainy day pot that way you don't get caught short with any inevitable repairs and it's true of anything with the Range Rover badge even the Humble Voke so I think that's quite good advice really it's only taken me 10 years and thousands of pounds to figure that out but hopefully my uh my mistakes mean that you guys won't suffer they get past there or not lovely stuff it's quite a pleasant car this actually i do quite like the Evoke anyway so that's my list done there are some really good options there i think personally I'd go with something like a Porsche Cayenne or if I want a tighter budget then I'd go with the Lexus RX one word of warning though these cars can be quite expensive when they go wrong so what I'd advise you do is keep a couple of,000 tucked away to one side that way you can pay for any repairs if you've got any suggestions for cars that I've missed then let me know below in the comments but until next time thank you once again for watching make sure you give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it make sure
