Six-Mark Analyze Questions Overview

  • Found in Section B of the exam; two analyze questions per paper.
  • No need for definitions in your answer.
  • Assessed on AO2 (application) and AO3a (analysis).
  • Important to link back to the case study; non-linked answers can't score above three marks.
  • Six-mark questions may ask you to analyze impacts, benefits, drawbacks, or factors—positive or negative—in context.

Structure of a Good Answer

  • Use 5 linked strands to build your answer: examples include "because", "leads to", "therefore", "in addition", and "as a result".
  • Preferably provide 2 points, each with linked strands.
  • Example question: "Analyze the impact of competitors to Jaden’s bakery."

Example Answer Breakdown

First Paragraph

  1. Point: One impact that competitors could have on Jaden’s bakery is that Jaden would need to provide good quality cookies and chocolate muffins for customers to purchase.
    • Link 1: This would lead to the bakery having a competitive advantage over other bakeries such as Bake and Cakes in the local Wilson area.
    • Link 2: This would therefore increase the sales of soft drinks and croissants at Jaden’s bakery.
    • Link 3: From the additional revenue, this may result in Jaden being able to purchase the specialized oven.

Second Paragraph

  1. Point: Another impact is that Jaden’s bakery may expand their product range of baked goods.
    • Link 4: This means that the bakers and Jaden may need to decide on offering more types of cakes and pastries to stand out from the competition.
    • Link 5: This would lead to Jaden’s bakery being able to target a wider range of customers to purchase their cakes.
  • The answer uses 5 linked strands and application throughout, keeping it in context.

Final Tips

  • Use paragraphs to separate your answer to improve readability for the examiner.
