you don't need a lot of tools to make a concorn of course you need a conch you'll need something to measure with you'll need a hacksaw a drill a file and some sandpaper first and foremost start with a good conch shell if you get one that's been commercially harvested for meat then you're going to have to plug a hole round about the fourth spiral somewhere in here you can do that with epoxy and that you'll have to add to your list of ingredients or your list of tools but it's something you can also plug with your finger if you don't feel like messing with the epoxy once you found your conch make sure it's good and clean that means wash it out well make sure none of the resident is left inside and then soak it overnight preferably using a uh 10% bleach solution rinse it off really well dry it and now you're ready to get started now you're going to want a hole about the size of a dime's diameter which is roughly 700 mm that's a little bit more than 5/8 of an in a little bit less than 3/4 of an inch because I've never done it before I bought a small commercial shell cost about $4 just to practice on as you can see I've gotten the tip off and uh that small shell took me just over 5 minutes so so here we [Music] go this is taking quite a bit longer than I thought long enough that the neighbor's cat has gotten tired of waiting for me the large shell is much tougher than a small shell well removal of the uh the spiral took closer to a half an hour on this one not only is it much bigger much thicker but uh I kept losing the feeling in my hand that I was using to brace the shell itself and uh had to give my back a rest now and then as I did with the uh the hole I'm going to drill out my small Shell First for practice because I don't want to make a mistake using the big one for this I'm using fairly small bit because you don't want to clear out all of the air obstruction right now it's pretty solid in there and uh now I'm going to use a little medium grit sandpaper just to smooth the lip a bit and I'll tell you what my my file did a good enough job that I really don't have much left to do here okay I've had to experiment with whole size a little bit and I don't think I've quite got it down but I'm getting pretty close I'm no Trumpeter so bear with me but what do you think not too bad for a first try
