Hi, my name is Jonathan. Welcome to my proposal for Child-Centered Play Therapy, or CCPT, which focuses on using play therapy as a natural form of communication for children. Today I'll discuss the key elements of CCPT, including its goals, process, and how we can implement a cost-effective therapeutic playroom in our facility. Okay, so CCPT was created by Dr. Garrett Landreth, who started developing the model in the 1970s and authored Play Therapy, the Art of the Relationship in 91, which continues to remain the foundational text for the model today.
Dr. Landreth's work established CCPT as a non-directive approach where children lead sessions in a safe and supportive environment to process their emotions and their experiences. Child-centered play therapy assumes that play is a natural language of children and toys act as their words. In CCPT, the therapist creates a safe and accepting environment where children can freely express their emotions and process their experiences.
By observing and reflecting the child's play, the therapist supports supports emotional exploration, problem solving, and healing. This approach aligns with developmental principles, recognizing and honoring the dynamic and evolving inner world of the child. CCPT operates on three main principles. First, as I stated, is non-directive where the child leads the session. Second, the therapist's role.
is to reflect the child's feelings, track their behaviors, and set boundaries to ensure safety. And then lastly, the overreaching goals of CCPT include emotional regulation, enhanced problem solving skills, and strengthened self-esteem. These goals support children in expressing and processing their emotions effectively. Okay, so... To implement CCPT, a designated playroom must include carefully selected toys that encourage expression and exploration.
For example, expressive toys such as art supplies help children communicate their feelings creatively, and fantasy toys like puppets or figurines allow for storytelling and processing emotions. Real life toys like Dolls or kitchen sets provide a way for children to explore relational dynamics. And then finally, sensory toys such as a sand tray or stress balls promote soothing.
These categories of toys align and strengthen the therapeutic goals of CCPT while staying within our proposed budget of $300. In designing an effective... playroom for child-centered play therapy, it's essential to create a space that fosters safety, accessibility, and creativity.
A sand tray and sensory play items are critical for self-soothing and sensory regulation, while a puppet theater and stand encourage symbolic and imaginative play. Small tables and chairs, art-based act. Small tables ensure to support art-based activities and promote creative expression to enhance comfort, rugs, mats, beanbags, create a welcoming environment where children can feel at ease. And then finally, bookshelves help organize materials, ensuring the space remains functional and inviting. These components collectively create a therapeutic environment where children can explore, express, and...
process emotions effectively. Okay, so CCPT interventions focus on fostering emotional exploration, enabling symbolic processing of trauma, and developing coping strategies. So, for example, a child might use fantasy play to work through feelings of anxiety or use art. to express emotions they cannot verbalize. By utilizing these interventions, CCPT helps children develop resilience and emotional regulation. Okay, so some steps in CCPT.
The treatment process in CCPT consists of four stages. The first stage is building rapport with the child, building rapport and trust with the child. And then the second stage is observing the child's play to understand their inner world and better relate to them.
The third stage involves reflecting the child's feelings and behaviors to facilitate the promotion. of their insight. And then the fourth stage focuses on encouraging and nurturing child's self-directed problem-solving skills.
And this structured but child-directed process helps empower and control of the, sorry, helps children feel empowered and in control of their healing journey. Okay, so some core interventions include reflective listening, symbolic play, and the ACT model for setting limits. Reflective listening validates the child's feelings while symbolic play allows them to process difficult experiences and the ACT model helps therapists to set clear boundaries in a compassionate way by acknowledging the child's feelings, communicating behavioral limits, and then offering targeted alternatives.
Okay, so cultural sensitivity. In CCPT, inclusivity is not just a guiding principle, it's woven into every aspect of the therapeutic process. Culturally sensitive toy selections, such as using multicultural dolls or puppets, ensure that children feel seen, respected, and valued.
Accessibility means adapting the therapy environment to meet each child's unique needs, whether that involves providing sensory-friendly items for neurodivergent children or ensuring physical accessibility for children with mobility challenges. By collaborating with caregivers, these inclusive practices extend beyond the playroom, creating a comprehensive, supportive approach that makes CCPT truly accessible to all children. Okay, so in terms of legal and ethical considerations, CCPT includes maintaining confidentiality, obtaining informed consent from guardians, and mandatory reporting of abuse disclosures are all promoted within the model. And then additionally, therapists are instructed to set... professional boundaries while also ensuring the child's emotional and physical safety throughout the sessions.
Okay, so challenges in the virtual setting. So the use of CCP model for telehealth involves addressing challenges such as limited access to physical toys and of course maintaining child engagement. However, there are many virtual tools like online sand trays and drawing.
platforms that can effectively bridge this gap without interrupting, without interruption of the CCPT therapeutic goals. And then additionally, collaborating with caregivers to create home-based play kits can ensure continuity and accessibility to the therapy model. All right, so evidence-based.
The effectiveness, CCPT's effectiveness is supported by substantial evidence-based research. Studies demonstrate that CCPT helps children improve emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, and process trauma. For example, Dr. Gary Landry at 2012 emphasized CCPT success in addressing behavioral and emotional challenges, effectively in his foundational text, Play Therapy, The Art of the Relationship.
And then additionally, Bratton, Ray Edwards, and Landreth 2008 reviewed CCPT's outcomes finding significant improvements in children's self-esteem and emotional resilience. These examples represent just a small sample of the extensive research validating CCPT as a highly effective therapeutic approach for children. Okay, so why CCBT, huh? All right, so in summary, child center plate therapy is not only cost-effective, it's an evidence-based therapeutic model that leverages children's natural ways of communicating and healing through play.
Its adaptability for both in-person and telehealth sessions ensures it is accessible and flexible for our diverse client base. By implementing CCPT, we can position our facility as a leader in child and family therapy, delivering transformative research-supported interventions that empower families and strengthen our presence in the community. Thank you for your time today and support, and I hope that you will consider bringing CCPT into our company. Thank you.
