Accessing SPSS

• Trial Version: Available for about two weeks.
• Full Version Access for Macquarie University Students:
  • Log in to mq.octa.com with your One ID and password.
  • Select "App Stream Student Applications."
  • Choose "IBM SPSS Statistics 25" from the menu.
  • Requires password input again to access SPSS software.

SPSS Interface Overview

Designing a Survey in SPSS

• Start in Variable View:
  • Design the questionnaire before entering data.
  • Column "Name": Assign codes to items.
  • Type: Choose numeric for number-based responses; choose string for text-based responses.
  • Decimal: Set to zero if dealing with whole numbers.

Adding Labels and Values

• Labels Column:
  • Enter item descriptions for clarity (optional but recommended).
• Values Column:
  • Assign labels to numeric responses (e.g., 1 = Strongly Disagree).
  • Use the "Add" function to assign each value.

Managing Different Scales

• If items have different scales, separately generate values for each.

Measures
