okay and from now on uh you're gonna work with uh spss today we just want to learn uh how to enter our data we have collected our data thermal respondents so today we just want to learn how we can enter this data into spss so there is a phone uh in on your oil and on the summon number three it's called uh data analysis so that's pdf file this is the whole this includes the whole lecture slide that we want to cover in uh from now on towards the end of the semester so please ensure that you download this file and and put it in your system uh from time to time i may revise this file and add something if i if i notice that i can add to the clarity of the file by adding something or removing something else so please ensure that every week you download the new version of data analysis file before you start data analysis so first how we can access to sps is the third version you may find a trial version which is valid i guess for two weeks or so but being a student in at macquarie university you are entitled to use the full version of spss how you can access to the full version of spss from home you need to log in to your app stream to do that you must log in to uh mq.octa.com so i'm gonna write it down here in q that october.com [Music] so log into this page with your one id and password and here you must choose upstream student applications so you choose this one so for the first time you're running that page it may take like two minutes two even to three minutes so don't worry at the end uh you must see this page so when you log in with your uh one id and password it takes some time until you see this page in this page what you need to do is choosing ibm spss statistics 25. this one also would take uh some time so don't worry if it takes even longer at the end you must see uh spss on the system so in this page the system again asks you to put your password so i'm going to put my password and then press plugin you must be able to see an access page in your system so uh this is the page the main page of spss uh software this is pretty much similar to the you know to the version that you download and install in your system this is just based on the upstream of uh macquarie university but again if you have already downloaded the full version of spss in your system you don't need to go through all the steps but if you don't have a space in your system then you still can use the full version and provided that you go to your other upstream using your university one id and uh and password if you have any problem to use app stream please ensure that you launch a one health ticket and you ask our arty people to help you out in order to log in in order to work with uh in order to having access to spss because i have spss in my system i'm gonna use the the version that i've been installed uh on my system but you exactly can follow all the steps that i'm gonna go through using your app stream so let's say that i have this page of spss there are two tabs here the first step is data view and the second tab is variable view from where we start viber view so in variable view basically we design our questionnaire in spss and in that of you we enter the data so first things first we have to design a questionnaire in spss before we enter any data so let's say that i'm going to design a survey that has these items i'm going to design it in spss okay let's say that i've collected some data from my respondents and i'm going to enter this data in spss let me find a server which has been completed okay let's say that this is one of the survey i've collected from my respondent and i'm gonna design this survey and insert this data into spaces so first things first we have to design the survey now how we can design it again we must start from a variable view tab we need to put we need to design our items this is the uh edited version of the uh survey that i have in uh the first column here name basically can put the codes you have assigned to your uh to your items for example in my first three items i have this three code so copy from this and i paste in spss so once you paste the code all the column yeah all the the uh come here so these are my first three items in uh decimal basically enumerate in type and basically you have different options for example if your respondents apply something using some words then you cannot have numeric you have to choose string but because the responses that we have here all our numbers that's why we choose uh numeric right but again if it's something like a word or a phrase then we choose the string the place okay we hit ok and decimal shows the number of decimal decimals after the the decimal point so in this we don't need to have any decimal so we just change it to zero and we only change it to zero why because uh we just deal with uh some uh numbers here without having without having any decimal so it's just one two three four five then uh in labels what you need to do or what you can do is you can place the description of the items so you can simply copy from here you copy the description of the items and you paste it in spss in labels right so these are my items you don't have to do that even spss works without you know with leaving the labels deliver level column blank but again if you want to if you want to know that each code represents what item then you can put a description of the items on the next column is values uh here you uh you are telling system uh [Music] that what is the label that you want to assign to each value for example if you go back to the questionnaire the uh number one represents a strongly security so here i put value one label sd and i added and then two is this a3 so i can copy from here i added and then next one is uh three which is uh neither actually no uh dissectory and then four exactly and five is this 283 so you can put the string a3 or just simply as a year add it and okay and then you can copy if your items uh have the same schedule you can copy and paste your the values that you have created here okay but if you have uh items with different schedule then you need to do the same thing uh for another bunch of items that have a different schedule okay so for example this one i have different schedules so i need to generate the values uh in spss separately then we talk about missing letter uh the point that you need to know now is measures okay so if you remember we discussed about different uh different uh measures we have uh scale ordinal or nominal uh for these questions that we have the liquid scale point from one to five or one to seven or one to nine we need to choose scale of course if you're talking about your questions about age then your option would be different right [Music] i'm going to leave it to you to complete the questionnaire for this week's activities i'm not gonna uh go through on the rest of the question the point i'm trying to make is when you finish when you design your questionnaire in spss then if you go to data view you'd see different items if you have a hundred items in your questionnaire then all the item comments appear then your next step is entering the data of your respondents so for example uh my the responses that i got for uh the first three bunch of items tt1 t2 and it is four three and four so i put first first row represents the first case or the first person or the first participant or the first respondent so again i look at the answer of my first respond then which is 4 3 and 4 for the first bunch of questions so i put 4 3 and 4. so you need to design the rest of the questions in spss and then enter the data for the corresponding items
