Hi guys, welcome back to my youtube channel and as I promised you last week. This is a series of English I'm going to be teaching you guys It will be in English because you guys are ICC students and I believe if you listen and hear someone speak in English It will be beneficial for you in the long run so without wasting your time let's get started with today's video and today we will be covering haunted houses and the workbook by beta publications you guys can get it i'll be reading the poem first one paragraph of the poem i'll be explaining it here will be the part that i'll be reading so this poem gives us a clear message that our loved ones remain with us even after long time they have passed away they remain connected to us all the time they share our living spaces and they observe over us from a distance and even sometimes they join us in our daily activities this is the basic idea of the poem now let's get started with the poem haunted houses by h HW Longfellow. All houses wherein men have lived and died are haunted houses. Through the open doors, the harmless phantoms and their errands glide with feet that make no sound upon the floors. So in this first paragraph, there are some words that I'm going to be explaining you. Those are number one is phantoms. Phantoms means the ghost or the spirits of the dead people. Erans means duties. Glide means move smoothly without making any noise. So the poet here describes the ghost or the people, spirit who are living with us as harmless spirits. Like they observe us, they look over us, but they do not harm us in any way or disturb our day to day activities. That's why we can't even feel their presence sometimes. So he has also described these spirits as they are very busy in their own lives. And sometimes they are so busy that they move purposefully in the house. So these... spirits they move purposefully in the house doing whatever they used to do when they were alive. Further the poet goes on to tell that these spirits they move without making any noise like they are moving around making no sound. Stanza two. We meet them at the doorway on the stair along the passage they come and go. Impalpable impressions on the air a sense of something moving to and fro. Impalpable it means cannot be felt by the touch of hand. In this paragraph the poet goes on to tell you that these spirits, you meet these spirits in your house, they can be anywhere like on the doorway, in the passage, they are constantly moving around in the house and also they are like that untouchable impressions of the air. He goes on to tell you that we can feel the presence of these spirits by the sensation of something moving to and fro. Stanza 3. There are more guests at the table than the host invited. illuminated hall is thronged with quiet inoffensive hosts as silent as the pictures on the wall so in this paragraph the poet tells you that the ghosts make their presence felt to the host by joining the guests that the host invited on the dining table and thus increasing the number of people who have joined on the dining table more than the people who were invited by the host also he goes on to say that the ghosts are inoffensive and they are as quiet as the guests as the portraits on the wall. Like you can't listen to these ghosts, they are quiet and you even can't feel their presence. Stanza 4 The stranger at my fireplace cannot see the forms I see, nor hear the sounds I hear. He but perceives what is while unto me all that has been is visible and clear. In this stanza, the poet says that the stranger or the guest was joining the party. the speaker at the fireplace does not hear or see the ghosts or the spirits as much as the speaker does like the speaker says that the stranger is only able to see what is currently going on that is the present but the speaker he can see everything from past until the present stanza 5 we have no title deeds to house or lands owners and occupants of earlier dates from graves forgotten stretch their dusty hands and hold in mortain still their old estates mortains means a permanent ownership of a land or an estate so here the poet says that we we as in the living human beings we do not have any title dates to the house or lands we live in because their earlier occupants the people who have lived in these houses in past like they are dead now and they're Graves are long stretched forgotten and unattended. They have come out of their graves and they have returned to their houses like their original estate. Thus, we do not have any permanent ownership of the lands we live in. Stanza 6 The spirit world around this world of sense floats like an atmosphere and everywhere, wafts through these earthly mists and vapor dens, a vital breath of more ethereal air. Wafts means passes gently through the air. So here the poet says that the spirit world is very close to the living world. It is just like a layer of atmosphere that is surrounding the earth. So the spirit world is also like floating. around us. The poet goes on to say that it is a vital breath of delicate air of the other world. Guys, if you don't understand anything that I'm saying, please comment down in the comment section. I will happily help you guys with anything and everything. Stanza 7. Our little lives are kept in equipoise by opposite attractions and desires, the struggle of the instinct that enjoys and the more noble instinct that aspires. So here, the poet, goes on to say that humans have two types of instincts. One is the base instinct and number two is the noble instincts. What is base instinct? Base instinct is the feeling of enjoyment after you do something and noble instinct is the goal or things that inspire us to do certain things in life or the spiritual aspect or the spiritual aims in life. These are the noble instinct. As humans we should learn to balance these two in such a way that it brings a balance or an equipause in our life. Stanza 8. These perturbations, this perpetual jar of earthly wants and aspirations high come from the influence of an unseen star, an undiscovered planet in our sky. So in this paragraph, the poet says that the disturbances and the enduring need, like the forever longing of having everything in your life. life, these are not human-made. These are shaped by some unforeseen or some unknown forces which are present in a far away planet in our universe. Perturbation means disturbances and perpetual means enduring forever. Stanza 9 And as the moon from some dark gate of cloud Throws over the sea a floating bridge of light Across whose tempting planks are fancy-scroud Into the the realm of mystery and night. So in the stanza, the poet says that when the moonlight falls on the waves of the sea, it forms a bridge-like structure. Like if you see this image, you'll see that the waves are forming a light kind of image. Like it's a bridge between the human world and the world of the spirits and it's connected. The poet says that if we travel, like if the human imagination can travel across, trembling... plank or the bridge if the human imagination can cross it into something dark and unknown we will be able to connect with the human world will be connected to the spirit world last stanza stanza 10 so from the world of spirits there descends a bridge of light connecting it with this over whose unsteady floor that sways and bends wander our thoughts above the dark abyss so here the poet says that the world of the spirit is connected to the human world by the bridge of light that is connecting us and the loved ones the memories that we have of our loved ones are keeping them from going into a dark abyss anything which is profound or infinite is known as abyss so the poet ends the on a very reassuring note that the memories of our loved ones are keeping us well connected with the people who have long left us so this is your poem so I'll be providing you with the summary of this story along with some important questions in the description below I'll also be giving you the style of the story like the poetic devices metaphor simile personification alteration here everything is written and critical remarks I'll be giving you the question answers also reference to context questions also I'll be putting it down in the description below I hope you enjoyed today's video if you did please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel comment down below if you have problem in any area i'll give my 100% in solving your problems your doubts and all the best for your term one examination i know many of you are giving your exams now and i hope you'll join me in this series and next day i am planning to start with a story if you have any suggestion with story i should start first please don't tell julius because i don't like it anyway so if you guys help me to suggest what story I should do next drop it down in the comment section below and we'll see you tomorrow the same time I saw you today so okay I'll be doing a live streaming of study with me one hour session and most of you have voted for 6 to 7 p.m so if you guys want to join me for that I'll completely mute my microphone we'll study for one hour I'll be doing some coding in that one hour I hope you sit down with your books and study study in that one hour also and so that's it from my end see you tomorrow bye
