[Music] it's the realest hey what's going on everybody it's your guy Realistic and I'm back with another tutorial on mixing and mastering and in this video I'm going to show you how to bounce stems outside of ProTools but first if you haven't already be sure to hit that like and subscribe button cuz believe it or not it does go a long way to help the channel grow because if you like the video then it tells YouTube that hey maybe somebody else might like the video and might want to check it out as well so that always helps me out if you wouldn't mind being able to do that but let's go ahead and dive into bouncing stems in ProTools this has been a topic of discussion for years and for a very long time we did not have the uh capabilities to bounce stems the way that Ableton or Logic or FL all had it was so easy and seamless to be able to do that in ProTools it was quite a workaround so let me show you back in the day of how this used to be done real quick and also I want to show this way because if I don't show this way and I show somebody how to bounce it I know there's going to be some old-timers or know-it-alls in the comments that'll be like "Hey actually this is how you do it." It's like yeah that's actually not not the the way to do it or that's the the old way and that that takes a long time to do that it is much easier way to do that with their their new feature uh to be able to bounce stem so the old way that you had to do this is uh you had to commit all the tracks or you had to print all the tracks so the inserts were baked into the audio file and then you had to consolidate the uh audio files all individually like you know bam like like this so they're all one and then everything's printed on there then what you would do on the keyboard is you would hit shift command K and then this would allow you to be able to export the selected files right so that's what a lot of old-timers and know-it-alls are going to tell you oh that that's the way to do it just hit shift command K what they're not realizing though is that when you do that uh it's only just the raw audio file shift command K just exports this raw audio file so anything over here on the inserts uh anything as far as the volume or panning none of that is going to show up when you just hit shift command K that's just the raw audio file also too shift command K is going to uh if you don't have all your tracks consolidated that's going to export each one of these as an individual file and not give you the same starting point or anything like that so all you have to do these days though is just highlight all the tracks that you want to export uh as your stems and then just uh rightclick and go ahead and hit bounce so let's go ahead and do that and it's going to just prompt you just like you would um on a regular channel here so I'll just type in the information uh that's in there and then I got a little file right here uh or folder I should say stems so let's go ahead and bounce that and you'll see how quick this is you know shift command K this would this would take you know you'd have to this would probably take 20 or 30 minutes because you'd have to print and commit everything all right now that we've done that if we go ahead and just look at our folder you see we got all our stems right here right every single one of them right there everything is labeled good to go and all the inserts are there we didn't have to consolidate any of the clips our panning and our volumes are going to be there as well shift command K would not um do any of that so and you'll see that all of these files here are the same length as far as uh time 234 234 234 see so it's pretty easy now last thing I do want to point out is this option right here is only available in ProTools Studio and ProTools Ultimate so if you have ProTools artist unfortunately that is not an option and actually for the uh for a year or two this was actually a feature that was only uh available in ProTools Ultimate so they just added this to ProTools Studio a little while ago which is really nice cuz I uh I didn't want to pay that $100 a month for ProTools Ultimate just to mount stems but now you have the ability to do that and you can skip the whole 20 or 30 minute process that it used to with the whole shift command K export the stems out and having to print those so hopefully this information helped you out a lot and now you know how to bounce your files in ProTools it's actually quite useful i do want to point out though the one thing that it's still ProTools is still behind uh as far as the other DAWs is anything that's inside like the buses so like for instance I have all of this these tracks here routed to an instrument sum got my drums all routed to a drum sum when you do the shift uh when you do the bounce here it's not going to uh include anything that's going through the sums it's just going to include what's on this individual insert you could bounce out this uh this track by itself here but that would have would have everything that's going through this sum as as one track so uh ProTools is still kind of far behind uh that as far as Ableton Logic and uh FL because uh if you bounce stems it includes uh everything that is running through the sum as well or your your mix sum too cuz uh anything that's on here will not show up so hopefully Avid and ProTools eventually gets around to that because uh it is 2025 as of the airing of this video it's pretty you're pretty far behind still not be able to have that option but hopefully this was useful and if it was again if you wouldn't mind hitting that like and subscribe button cuz again it does help the channel grow tells YouTube that somebody else might like this as well also too I am available for online mixing lessons and consultations if you'd like to book that I do have a link in the description below that also does go a long way to help support the channel and support me being able to do this too so if you do want to book a consultation I would greatly appreciate that again just hit the link in the description below and also if you found this video helpful and you want to watch some other videos you can watch one of those videos here here and here all right until next time y'all
