your why is to contribute to a greater cause in other words to make a difference in the lives of others or to add value to other people in this video i'm going to take you through the characteristics of your why the challenges that you have with your why and then the solutions to those challenges so first the characteristics of your why individuals with the why of contribute yearn to be part of the greater cause and to serve something greater than themselves you don't want to be the cause rather to contribute to it in a meaningful way you love to support others and relish in the success of the greater good the company's growth and the victory of the team people with this y seek to add value in all that they do to do their part and help in whatever way possible you're often found behind the scenes looking for ways to make the world a better place when you show up in a more public forum it's often to trumpet a message or support a movement people with this why are the go-to people the ones you look for when you need help with just about anything virtually every organization must have contributors in order to operate successfully because you act as the glue that holds everyone else together you use your time energy resources and connections to add value to others now the challenges the challenge with the why of contribute is the tendency to over commit because you want to contribute and make a difference everywhere your inclination is to continuously say yes to request after request now friends offering advice are likely to tell you that you should just learn to say no what they don't understand is that saying no goes against the very essence of what you believe or who you are to you contributing equals success therefore just saying no falls on deaf ears or worse it simply makes you feel bad because of this you often give energy to areas and situations in other people that drain you rob you of your vitality and don't feed you you're often committed to so many causes that your overall health and well-being could suffer and you may have a hard time getting ahead yourself the solution the key to success for people with the why of contribute is for you to identify and recognize where you make the greatest possible contributions and then focus your efforts on those areas in other words every time you're faced with an opportunity to contribute ask yourself this question if i agree to give of myself here is that enabling me to make the maximum contribution that i possibly can or is this a situation that was going to take from me and inhibit my ability to give my best somewhere else your key to success is discernment and by discernment i mean that you have to be able to choose wisely between the countless opportunities that will constantly present themselves by doing that you will shy away from the areas in which you can only play small and gravitate towards those in which you can play all out your life will expand and become even more rich and fulfilling if you want to reach more of your personal goals things like getting in shape or starting a new career the way to do that is make yourself the cause you become the cause and then you'll move forward and when you become your own cause you will spend the time energy and effort to develop yourself and reach those goals that have always been important to you but you haven't been able to reach yet this will allow you to fully live your why we often find that people with a why of contribute feel like they should be in a subordinate or helper role and sometimes under value their gift actually when put in a leadership position you can do extremely well interestingly the most successful person we have ever worked with someone incredibly successful financially as well as in his relationships has your why as the ceo of a 540 billion dollar investment company he says that his success comes from making those around him better he finds ways to help others do better and when they do better everyone wins and the company thrives you have a unique gift that allows you to build strong relationships and stronger organizations and people want you on their team what a wonderful why you have in making the world a better place
