Monroe's Motivated Sequence Overview

meet Tom Tom loves his class but what he doesn't like is worrying about his upcoming speech I bet we've all been in his shoes before and that's why today I will teach you about Monroe's motivated sequence this five-step organizational pattern focuses on maintaining the audience motivation to listen throughout the presentation so let's go on to step number one attention this is where we want to arouse the interests of our audience and be sure what we say and do is relevant to both the audience and the topic the main goal in this step is to involve the audience and the topic generating a rationale for them to listen to you moving on to step to need this is where we make the audience feel that there's a need for change we want to show them that there's a serious problem with the existing situation the goal in this step is to get the audience so concerned about the problem that they are psychologically primed to hear your solution step 3 satisfaction we want to satisfy the sense of need for change by providing a solution to the problem we want to present our plan and show how exactly it will work the goal in this step is for your audience to clearly understand how your solution satisfies the need for change in other words how it solves the problem step for visualization this is where we intensify the audience desire for your plan by visualizing the benefits and the goal in this step is for the audience to see how much better conditions will be once your plan is adopted and finally we have step 5 action this is where we say exactly what we want the audience to do and how we want them to do it and we want to conclude with a final staring appeal that reinforces their commitment to act thank you for watching I hope this video helps you with your next persuasion speech remember you could always make an appointment at the UNCG speaking Center for additional help
