[Music] hello friends welcome back to my channel today we'll be crocheting a shrek bucket hat [Music] here are the materials you'll need i'm using eight ply milk cotton yarn in green for the crochet hook i'm using five millimeters or the each size i'll also be using a tapestry needle and some scissors some optional materials include stitch markers and a measuring tape the stitches in this pattern include chains single crochets half double crochets and slip stitches [Music] this tutorial will be divided into four parts the base of the hat the crown or length of the hat the brim of the hat and attaching the shrek ears it's helpful to know the measurement of your head before you start my head's around 22 inches which equates to a diameter of about 7 inches keep your number in mind because this will affect how many rounds of increases you'll do for the base later [Music] make a slip knot [Music] for round one chain three [Music] work ten half double crochets into the first stitch [Music] do [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] for round two chain two do two half double crochets into each stitch [Music] do [Music] do [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] you should have 20 stitches [Music] for rounds three to seven we'll be increasing until we reach the desired length of the base for round three chain two do one half double crochet into the first stitch [Music] then do two half double crochets into the next stitch [Music] repeat until the end of the round [Music] [Music] do [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] you should have 30 stitches for round four chain two [Music] do one half double crochet into the first two stitches [Music] then do two half double crochets into the next stitch [Music] repeat until the end of the round [Music] do [Music] slip stitch to join the round you should have 40 stitches [Music] for round five chain two do one half double crochet into the first three stitches [Music] [Music] then do two half double crochets into the next stitch [Music] repeat until the end of the round [Music] [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] you should have 50 stitches continue increasing for around six and seven or until you reach the desired diameter of your base [Music] for round six chain two do one half double crochet into the first four stitches [Music] then do two half double crochets into the next stitch [Music] repeat until the end of the round [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] for round seven chain two do one half double crochet into the first five stitches [Music] then do two half double crochets into the next stitch repeat until the end of the round [Music] slip stitch to join the round [Music] at this point the diameter of my base has reached 7 inches but feel free to do more or less rounds for a bigger or smaller hat [Music] we're now in the length or crown portion of the hat for round eight chain two do one half double crochet in the front loop of each stitch [Music] [Music] do [Music] slip stitch to close the round you should have 70 stitches at the end of the round for rounds 9 to 13 chain do one half double crochet into each stitch [Music] [Music] slip stitch to close the round [Music] you should have 70 stitches at the end of the round you can customize the length of the hat by adding or subtracting non-increased rounds for me i did six rounds [Music] in round seven we left off at doing one half double crochet into the first five stitches before doing an increase or two half double crochets into the next stitch we'll be continuing this pattern for round 14 except we'll be working on the front loops so for round 14 chain two [Music] do one half double crochet into the first six stitches [Music] do two half double crochets into the next stitch [Music] repeat this until the end of the round do [Music] slip stitch to close the round you should have 80 stitches for round 15 chain two do one half double crochet into each stitch [Music] slip stitch to close throughout you should have 80 stitches to adjust the length of the brim just alternate between an increase and non-increase wrap i want mine a little bit longer so i'm doing another increase and non-increased round which is round 16 and 17. once the brim is in your desired length finish off i'll be using an invisible joint [Music] insert your needle into the front of the first stitch then pull [Music] through carry your tail to the front side and insert your needle into the back loop of the stitch we fastened off from then continue beating off ends normally [Music] for the starting tail i like to weave it through the first round of stitches and tighten to close up the hole [Music] then i continue to weave the ends in normally [Music] [Music] make sure to leave a long starting tail for sewing later [Music] using a five millimeter crochet hook chain ten [Music] [Music] slip stitch to join the round for round one do one single crochet into each stitch we will be doing a continuous round so we will not be slip stitching [Music] do [Music] [Music] continue to do three more rounds of single crochets [Music] stitch markers can help with keeping track of the rounds [Music] for round five do two single crochets into the front loops of each stitch [Music] you should have a total of 20 stitches for round six to eight do one single crochet into each stitch [Music] cut off your yarn and finish off weave off the ends [Music] repeat the pattern to make another ear [Music] i think the ears look cuter when folded so i'm folding mine [Music] i'm sewing the ears somewhere along the sixth and seventh row [Music] and we're done [Music] thank you so much for watching don't forget to tag me if you make these i am at stringbeans on instagram don't forget
