Mercedes Sprinter TV Installation Guide

oh man that's got to be quite possibly the coolest thing 40in TV in the Sprinter and it's flushed with the with the light that looks awesome I mean this 40 in fits perfect look at that perfectly 40in TV inside the van ready for all the movies this is going to be awesome hey guys welcome back to the channel today's video I'm going to show you how to install the Sprinter tan famous TV mount that goes in the top of these Mercedes sprinters if you've uh picked up a sprinter I happen to have a passenger Sprinter here and you wanted to add some AV Audio Video to this thing and you want to put a TV in it the best place to put it is up here in the roof where it's kind of out of the way and the passengers can still see it um in my case I have kids and I also want to use it for work so um I'm going to set up a Blu-ray player an HDMI in from an iPhone and then obviously have it stream apps if we have a Wi-Fi connection in the van so this video is going to be on how to install the Sprinter Tain TV mount and I want to also thank sprain for sponsoring this video and partnering up with me so we can put this type of content together for the customer who's going to be buying the sprain TV mount um you can get that at sprin attain.com so I'm going to plug that I'll put a link down below but what we want to do is even though we have all these hopes and dreams of putting a TV up here that's all well good but the problem is is how do you power it how do you bring a video feed to it from a Blu-ray player you got to add power you need 120 volts from an inverter you need 12 volts uh coming in DC for any um any other accessories you want to run so that's where I'm going to pick this video up I've done the basic wiring of the components and I'm going to take you through that now piece by piece to show you how I did it and I also want to tell you right now before I go any further if you don't feel comfortable doing Automotive wiring or you just want to get a professional opinion take it to an audio video shop but this is how I DIY it in my backyard I have a lot of experience with doing 12volt wiring so take my experience bring it to your Sprinter so all the blah blah blah is out of the way let me show you how I started let's start at the battery when you open up the Sprinter floor you're going to have a battery in your compartment I'm going to do a video on installing my swivel seats from the swivel shop.com on how to take the seats out of the van and all that stuff but you need to I'm going to start at the point where the two seats are removed and we're doing wiring the first thing you do before you touch your van is you park it you let it sit for at least a half an hour I think the instruction say 15 minutes give it extra time half hour sit for half an hour there's going to be a cover right here that comes off and if you look inside of here there's a little see that post right there this wire right here with the little red button on it is a is a a chassis ground when you you need to disconnect this from the post before you do any work on your van that's going to disable the factory ground across the whole van and when you unplug your seats to take your seats out your airbag sensor which is this plug right here this is underneath each seat when you unplug this it won't throw the airbag code if you unplug this while the battery is connected you have to take it back to Mercedes or buy a $250 code clearer to clear the airbag code it's not going to be the end of the world but just letting you know right now ask me how I know so we're going to start in the wiring I've disconnected my ground I've run a this isn't mounted yet like I said we're starting halfway in a four gauge wire everything that's going to this power inverter that I'm about to show you is four gauge it's going to 150 amp breaker which is a bit Overkill but it might application I'm running 150 amp breaker this is where I have my breaker that's going to be mounted in here so it's easy access I pull this panel off I can get to my breaker if I need to this is my whole audio video system and any accessories upfitters lights everything else is going to be controlled through from this main power source let's look at the battery this is where we start so take this off you got a positive got a 4 gauge wire going to the positive terminal it runs through here underneath this little you can just push it and fish it up see it's moving and it goes to the one side of the breaker then I have another 4 gauge wire right here and I'll put a link Down Below on how I make my battery ends here you can make all this cable stuff up yourself and links to all these products from Amazon are going to be down below so you can get all this stuff for your Sprinter Tain TV install this wire comes back down here and I just ran it back behind this panel and it pops out right there so you can see this is the heavy gauge wire right here it goes down and you can pass it through underneath this seat riser and it's going to go into not the inverter but a relay I'll show you that in a minute but that's the first wire okay the second wire you're going to need to pull off of your Sprinter is a switched 12volt power source if you open up the Sprinter and you open up this little Bay there's a little terminal right here that's already set up for when you up fit these Vans this is your switched 12volt power source so I have a 14 gauge wire connected here it runs down underneath the seat Channel underneath this piece of foam right here it runs I'm trying to keep my wire runs on the down slopes of the hump right here so you don't ever step on them and what I'll do before I finalize the install is I'll retain these all so they don't ever get pinched but this runs up underneath here through here down and again under the seat that's your basic battery connection now let me take you to the other side so I can show you the rest of the wiring okay here we are on the passenger side and what we've done this was an empty Bay we've built this out so here's our two wires that we just talked about that are coming in switch 12vt power and battery power you never want to run any kind of Main's power to right to the accessory you want to use a relay so what I have here is a 200 amp relay okay I'm also going to include my wiring diagram for download in the links down below for this for this video so you can see specifically what goes where on a picture but if we look here just for demonstration purposes we have one leg of the main battery coming in so if we look here's our main battery wire that runs under the seat under the floor here that's going to this terminal right here and I will tell you the terminals so you guys understand this here's my diagram that I drew up for myself so we have breaker running for gauge goes to terminal 30 on the relay and then terminal 87 is going out to the 1,000 watt inverter so here's your 87 running right here to the positive side of the inverter this is coming in from battery so this is on your 200 amp relay then the 200 amp relay gets a switched 12volt power source which is coming in on Terminal 86 okay it's a four terminal relay and then here's my ground wire right here which is going up into my master ground now I made a master Ground Post on this build and just so you're reference this is a piece of wood that I painted black that I mounted to the seat frame through here okay you got two bolts because we know we're going to do a lot of screwing onto the body of this we want to keep everything tidy so I made a master Ground Post right here where all my grounds can come back to right here and I'm pulling my main ground off of a four gauge wire here so there's a chassis bolt right here beautiful ground completely compl completely grounded right here coming in onto my post and then everything has a shared ground right here so that's your relay wiring okay four terminals grounded powered ready to go so when the key turns on on the van it sends a signal to this using a small wire a 14 gauge wire it sends a signal to the 200 amp relay to send full power full beans to the Renegy 1000 watt inverter and I'm running with a large inverter on this because I plan on doing other stuff you can run with a 750 depends on your budget but you got the space forward in here run the 1,000 watt okay if you can now from there we have a fuse block the fuse block there's a ground wire again going to our grounding post there is a one accessory mounted to this already I'll show you in a second but we also have a 12vt switched 12volt lead right here going into our shared switched 12volt power cuz I don't need to make a whole 12vt block for two for one switch source so we double tap into that relay so when the switched ignition power comes into the relay to turn the relay on it also sends that switched signal into this nice fuse block I'll put a link down below for this also has a constant 12volt power source which is going to this lead here on the relay so it has constant 12vt switch 12vt to activate this now I have one accessory this is a USB block so this has little cigarette lighter section on here little USB section this is going into the fuse center right here and then its own shared ground or its own Common Ground so this is already set up for switched power this in a nutshell is what's underneath the passenger seat so looking down at the van here I'm standing up here is our passenger side where all the business is going to happen for the TV and I've run some cables so let's pull these down let me show you how I came through my ceiling if I can get my camera to go see there's a little hole I drilled right there small hole just enough to pass the cables through unfortunately you do have to drill a hole I'm was trying to not do any Invasion but you do I have two HDMI cables running and a main 120 volt power cable for the TV coming up the a pillar everything runs down this area here underneath the headliner nice and tidy tucked tucked and you can see my wires that I haven't loomed up yet here so there's two HDMI cables which are the braided cables one power cable for the TV these all run down and also when I retain these you want to keep them out of the way of this airbag they're going to all be retained with the factory wiring there's some factory wiring components here we're going to retain those there so this stays out of the way of the airbag God forbid this airbag ever has to deploy the wires don't get hung up on it okay so all these get tuck down here coming down all you have to do you don't have to take any of this Dash apart this pulls back you can see some of my wires in here see the braided wire you can just push them through fish them fish them fish them through okay so you get to this point here you got one screw it's a T25 I believe T20 or T25 right here you loosen that up this lifts up and you can get the rest of your wires to fish through here you're going to fish them around you can see some of them kind of still poking out cuz I'm not done here around tuck them up underneath here okay remember your floor mat covers all this but you don't want to be stepping on them tucks under your screw will be out it goes under here then this with the two screws out is prial so you can pull this back get all your wires to lay about in here okay you still can get to your factory screws tuck them back through tuck them back through easy easy easy and they pass under the seat pull this back you can see they pass under the seat right here so there's a little lift you could see on the passenger side see they come through the floor so you see I have two cables one is the power for the TV and one is an HDMI cable the other HDMI cable I've decided to do a little L mod runs under the dash so it comes through it does a connection here comes through this will all be tucked up when we're done comes into here and what I did in this mod was this just pops off with a little plastic separator pops right up and I mounted this in here HDMI in from the dash so what I can do have my phone set up on a RAM mount Direct plug in my phone I can show what my phone has up on the TV and the phone also can use the Bluetooth audio out and play through the speakers on the Sprinter so you got full feed right from your phone right there at the dash so HDMI port runs down connects underneath the dash goes up to the TV for the power inverter power on I thought this was a really good spot to mount this because if you have kids and they're acting up I can shut the whole thing down or my wife can shut the whole thing down just by pushing a button right here this will kill the power inverter which will kill the TV and we can shut it off it's also good to have this right here because if I want to plug in something all I have to do is open up the port reach my hand in plug it into the plug do what I got to do turn it on when I'm done turn this off turn it on you have full control of the power inverter from exterior of the seat Bay because remember when I install my seat swivels from swivel shop this is going to be blocked okay so my only access port is this section right here I I'm also planning on where to put this Blu-ray player I think I want to put the Blu-ray player in here because I don't want so here is where I've mounted the Blu-ray player just like I said right up here I put a piece of wood down onto my first piece that I put down and then I brought it all the way across and added a little leg to it and then I strapped it with metal strap because this won't get messed up and this is much more durable than trying to screw through the bottom of the Blu-ray player right here and let me show you how cool this is here we are at the little control panel on I'm going to add a Blu-ray I open up my panel pops right out so I can put my Blu-ray player in here or my Blu-ray in the Blu-ray player here close it up put the panel back on easy breezy now it's got a Blu-ray ready to go I've installed the seat swivels from the swivel shop.com these are all done so there's a separate video I'll link Down Below in the description where you can see these but if you guys aren't familiar with these I'll give a little plug here while we're doing this Sprinter Tain video if you just push this little lever on the side this way now you can take your Sprinter seats spin them all the way around they can face the passengers back in the back so this gives us a nice little Clear View here of everything else that you guys have already seen in the video on how to get power to your TV so to get power up to the TV I've got a plug right there that's plugged into a cord which is going to reach the TV all the way up here at the top look at how beautifully Sprinter Tain packs their famous TV mount for the Sprinter this is some of the best packag packag in I think I've ever seen on anything I've ever ordered because all the tubes that they know you're going to see from inside of the van are wrapped in plastic they got the fragile tape on everything bubble wrapped really shout out to you guys to for packing it up like this this looks really really good and it definitely kept it safe with my UPS driver we all know how we all don't know how some of those some of those drivers be there working their butt off but this thing was able to stay protected so let's get this out of the box see what we got after unwrapping it look at this gorgeous gorgeous piece of engineering here this is the Sprint rain TV mount out of its packaging got a little bit of sticker issue happening here when I peel it off the plate but this is just a mounting plate behind the TV you can clean it off with some goo on so ignore that but in the package they give you some items we have some van front screws van rear screws that's to mount it to the upper area where the sun visors are then there's some TV Hardware provided and it's only for the TV that they recommend so I'll show you over here the instructions they recommend the Samsung you can read that serial number 32 in this is the instructions I'm going to go slow and you can pause the video we know we need a T30 screwdriver to start off with to get the first piece out on the van where the fiser is but look at the I just want to show off the quality and crafts ship here this is one of those things where I'm I'm not going to lie I was like well I can get a TV up there I'll just make my own thing but here's the thing look at all the bends look at all the calculations that were done to make sure that this fits perfectly inside your van without drilling through your headliner and booger and up your van this is going to go to your factory mounting spot so just like me when you question why is this thing so expensive time research and development production finish shipping you're paying a small business to handle all of the headaches that are involved in creating all these bends and all this thought to do it so it may look like just a couple of bars and a nice Mount here this is you got to think about all the other time that goes into making something like this and know when you spend the money on it you're getting something that's going to fit like Factory and every time you get in your van you're going to go yeah that looks pretty good I'm glad I was able to to spend the money on it and get the right thing instead of doing some hack job in your driveway unless you got all these tools to do it these are the guys you get it from Sprint attain.com so I'm going to stop my rambling here I'm going to get this installed in the van get a TV on it and enjoy it so let's go first order of business is up here at the sun visor area you can see we have the mounting location on the passenger side mounting location on the driver's side come over here to the driver's side I have a little thin tip screwdriver so we're going to fry off the little Factory uh screw cover gently not to Mar the plastic if we can pops right off and that's where we're going to need our T30 bit to loosen these off so here we are with the screws removed I'm going to start with the hardware bag Van rear this is Van rear this is Van front and the reason why they want you to use a spacer in here is to eat up this additional space from the indentation of the handle so you can see that that will create a flush mounting point for the bracket to attach to now they say you need two people to do this which is highly recommended I'm one person here the nice thing about the Sprinter Mount is it's not too heavy from Sprinter Tain and you can rest it up onto this handle if you're careful while you work the other side over here so that's what I'm going to do I'm going to lay it up I'm going to get one screw in and kind of show you your orientation once you've got your two Van rear bolts installed you're going to use a 5 mm allen wrench hex wrench to get them nice and snug now don't tighten them all the way up you're just doing a loose fit so you can massage the rest of these in place so just loose enough to know that they're threaded in and they're a little bit in into the Bol hole okay I want to show you why you keep it loose so now if I take it and I can wiggle this around a little bit you got to get a spacer back there so if you torque down that first set you're never going to get your spacer to go behind here so here's our spacer from the van front package and I'm going to carefully set my spacer back behind there then I'm going to use my bolt and fish the spacer kind of like this you're going to find the center of the spacer and the bolt hole just like that see the spacer moving on the bolt and then with the other hand if I can do this onehanded I will wiggle it which I did and find those threads slowly don't go at this with an impact gun you want to feel those threads and it should not be hard to turn you cross thread one of these out it's game over so nice and gentle just like that and let's do the other side so with all four screws lightly set in place goes without saying you're going to want to go ahead and start tightening these down be very gentle on how you do it don't go too hard on them and yeah take a Philips head screwdriver and get these screws out of the mount for the TV this is this is what I really like about this Mount because even when even if you decide to DIY this the problem you're going to run into is how do you 100% know that this thing's not going to wiggle around up there while you're driving and how do you know it's going to be secure if you hit a huge bump and that TV is not going to fall on your head this Mount was engineered and designed the right way he used all nice Metals heavy gauged he got the the bars all matted out he even put shrink wrap where the bracket mounts the mounting bar which I'll show you right here so you don't see that ugly 90° Bend where this meets this it's nice and clean it just looks nice the finish on it nice it's going to make your van look good let's take this final one out here and I'll show you how the plate comes off of the Sprinter tame Mount so see it's even got a hanging mechanism on here so when you set your TV it'll hang first while you can kind of work the screws up and down that pulls off of there and here's your base plate that's going to go to the back of your TV so let me show you the TV that I'm using for 2019 Sprinter and I definitely would recommend you use the TV that they have in their instructions and I'm going to show you the alternate version of that this is the TV I'm running with it's the Vio 40in it's a basic Smart TV 1080P and I'm going to go ahead and get this mounted up into the Sprinter let me show you the back of the TV model number of the TV is d40f j9 here it is set on the back of the TV and you can see the mounting holes all line up which is beautiful and the nice little bonus is they're Hardware that they Supply does work on the d40f j9 TV so let me get these all installed on all four corners and let's hang this bad boy on the spinter T M oh man that's got to be quite possibly the coolest thing 40in TV in the Sprinter and it's flushed with the with the light that looks awesome I mean this 40 in fits perfect look at that perfectly 40-in TV inside the van ready for all the movies this is going to be awesome it's hanging on the mount I got to just put the screws in you can see it bobbling up and down but now that gives you room to work I've got my connections up here way too much HDMI cable probably should have went with the 16t length that's the 25 ft so I'll make a nice tight wrap and tuck it away you won't see it I do like the color of it though so that's why I got it connections are made up here you can see into the TV I have two HDMI connections and the power cable now I can tighten this down and this is the part you guys are going to experience it with me first time this is the part where I'm going to push the button down here on the inverter by my passenger side I'm going to push this and let's see if we got power on the TV I push the button drum roll oh yeah we got a 40in TV in the van let's go so before you celebrate too much last step is to tighten up this TV to the sprain TV mount so it does not fall on your head so I'm going to run the Philips head screws in here and you can see he reaches nice nice angle everything was thought about on this TV mount I can't thank you guys again Sprinter Tain Sprinter t.com for all your efforts and partnering with my YouTube channel I think we're going to help a lot of people out making this Mount one more note on cable management that I find important on this video is this when you're running up this a pillar you want to be very mindful on the fact that there is an airbag right here and you're been running if you did what I did you've run three wires up the a pillar you want to make sure you zip tie them to the factory wire which is back here I've zip tied mine to the factory harness so there's never a situation where these can get rattled loose and fall in front of the airbag and God forbid the airbag has to deploy and it gets hung up by the wires and causes a huge issue so again if you're looking at this make sure you zip tie your new cables all the way up that a pillar Center away from the airbag itself because if you look at how this goes back on careful not to drop my screw here this will cover off everything in there nicely it's a big cover so you're safe but but keep your stuff zip tied well here's with the Sprinter all put back together looks just like factory with a little component right there and I'm going to do a little demo of the system to give you guys an idea of what you guys can expect when you install your Mount from Sprinter Tain here's everything here got my cables nice and hidden away everything looks tidy and Factory here's a view from sitting around here at the back seat I just opened up the sliding door and you could see how nicely that for 4 in fits up there just a clean installation absolutely Flawless with that mouth I'll give you an idea of the workflow here we'll come on in turn the key to let's turn the key on and then one more and you're going to hear a beep the beep is the inverter turning on with switched 12vt ignition come on down here and you'll see that the green light is on on the inverter which means that it is powering the TV in my particular setup I've set up my Blu-ray player right here because I'm a fan of physical media when you have kids so if I hit the open button on the Blu-ray player turn it on first and then open it you could see that the Blu-ray pops right out of the secret compartment here which is great close that back up and I will show you what everything everything looks like inside here we are sitting in the back seat of the Sprinter with I have the sound turned off so we don't get a copyright pop here but here it is working on the Blu-ray ready to go there's me and we got a uh little DVD in here for the kids so the way I'm running the Blu-ray player is HDMI into the TV and then the audio itself is coming from the TV speakers I'm working on a second video to bring the audio from the Blu-ray through the mbuck system but I haven't found the right adapter just yet so I will be getting to that there will be a video on this channel so subscribe so you can see that so this is the scenario with the physical media in for the kids and the speakers on the TV are plenty loud enough for anybody in the back to hear which is good but I like to take it up one level so that'll be another video but let me show you the other way I'm use this you remember I put a really cool HDMI port right here and that's for this reason so if I plug in one end of my HDMI cable to the HDMI Outlet right here if I can do this onehanded and then the other end is lightning check this out and of course you can watch YouTube videos so you can use any of your YouTube right from your phone directly plugged into the Sprinter and you can seecom all your volume everything works right through the U System so the only issues that I found with direct uh connection from your phone into your um TV to use the Bluetooth audio is using anything like Paramount Plus or Netflix um Hulu all that stuff seems to be pretty pretty heavily copy copy protection on there so you're going to run into a little bit of an issue with that but you can always get around that by using a Roku directly plugged into the TV itself and then what I'm trying to figure out in another video and I will figure this out is how to send the signal from the Roku Bluetooth out audio output into the mbu system because I can get it to recognize into the system but I can't get it to necessarily connect so that's another thing I'm going to be working on that or I'll use optical audio out direct lined into the USB so that's another video but this is how you get your TV into your Sprinter into your Sprinter and be able to watch any multimedia you want on popular apps like YouTube or Direct Media Blu-ray uh so if you appreciate this video I know it's long I want to thank sprin attain.com again for for partnering with me on this video and uh and and really do appreciate the product you guys make so thanks again remember to rate comment and subscribe if this helped you in any way and I'll get you in the next video later
