Lecture Notes: Prepping a Tumbler by Carl King

Introduction

  • Presentation by Carl King from King Print Design
  • Focus on the process of preparing a tumbler for further use
  • Presentation originally given at UV Energize event

Materials Needed

  • Tumbler: Already opened from packaging, lid removed
  • Anti-static rag (e.g., Tiger Claw rag)
    • Soaked with alcohol (Everclear)
  • Rubber gloves: Recommended for protection during the process
  • Red Hot for PDS: Adhesion promoter
  • Flame source: For flame treating the tumbler

Preparation Process

Cleaning the Tumbler

  1. Alcohol Wipe-down

    • Use an anti-static cloth soaked in alcohol (Everclear)
    • Purpose: Remove debris from packaging
    • Ensure you wear rubber gloves
  2. Drying

    • Clean multiple tumblers at once
    • Allow time for alcohol to evaporate

Flame Treating

  • Use a flame to treat the tumbler's surface
  • Look for a slight change or line indicating moisture or opening
  • Process:
    • Walk the flame around the cup briefly to "open up" the surface

Final Preparation

  • Use a lint-free rag for final cleaning
  • Apply a small amount of Red Hot promoter
  • Ensure the entire surface is covered (not necessary to locate exact places)

Summary

  • The process involves cleaning, drying, flame treating, and promoting adhesion on the tumbler surface.
  • Efficient prep can be done in batches, allowing for smooth workflow.
  • Emphasis on using the right materials and following the steps precisely for optimal results.
