Frog Dissection and Nerve Stimulation Procedure
Preparation
Set Up
: Place a pithed frog on a dissection board with its posterior surface facing upwards.
Skin Removal
Cut Open Skin
: Use scissors to cut open the skin of the frog, starting from the abdomen and continuing down to the lower extremities.
Remove Skin
: Carefully remove the skin to expose the underlying structures.
Muscle Exposure
Cut Thigh Muscles
: Use a scalpel to cut through the thigh muscles to expose the sciatic nerve.
Pin Muscles
: Pin the muscles down on either side to keep the area stable for further work.
Nerve Isolation
Free the Nerve
: Use a seeker to carefully free the sciatic nerve from the surrounding tissue.
Insert Forceps
: Place a pair of forceps under the nerve to assist in handling it.
Moisten Nerve
: Apply a few drops of Ringer's solution to keep the nerve and muscle moist.
Muscle Stabilization
Fix the Muscle
: Pin the muscle at the knee to stabilize its position for the stimulation process.
Nerve Stimulation
Apply Voltage
:
First, apply
