Calculating Stroke Volume and Cardiac Output Using Echo with Clarius PA Scanner
Introduction
Presenter:
Shelly
Topic:
How to calculate stroke volume and cardiac output using echocardiography with the Clarius PA Scanner
Preset Used:
Cardiac preset
Steps to Calculate Stroke Volume and Cardiac Output
Step 1: Measure Left Ventricular Outflow Tract (LVOT) Diameter
Window:
Parasternal window
Action:
Freeze the image with the valve open
Measurement:
Measure LVOT diameter close to the aortic valve opening
Capture:
Take a picture of the measurement
Step 2: Obtain Apical 5 Chamber View
Window:
Apical window
View Needed:
Apical 5 chamber view (includes the aortic valve and LVOT)
Action:
Bring up pulse Doppler and place sample volume in LVOT
Doppler Spectrum:
Start the Doppler and scroll to get a clean Doppler spectrum
Step 3: Perform Calculations
Heart Rate Measurement:
Measure peak to peak to get the heart rate
Stroke Volume Measurement:
Trace the LVOT flow to get stroke volume (141 cc's in this example)
Cardiac Output:
Access the report page to display cardiac output
Summary
The process involves using the Clarius PA Scanner to capture specific cardiac views and measurements.
Steps include measuring LVOT diameter, obtaining a clean Doppler spectrum, and tracing the LVOT flow to calculate stroke volume and cardiac output.
Results are displayed in the report page for quick estimations.
