Lecture Notes: Electrode Placement and Preparation
Overview
This lecture covers the proper technique for electrode placement on the head, including the preparation steps to ensure correct and reliable application.
Initial Setup
- Positioning: Ensure purple holes on apparatus are aligned with the ear holes.
- Marking Points: Use a tri-race marker to mark three key points on the scalp:
- Center point
- Two additional green points on either side
Electrode Application
Materials Needed
- Black electrode
- Paste
- Alcohol swabs
- Wooden dowels or pins
Steps for Application
-
Prepare the Electrode:
- Hold electrode between fingers.
- Apply a pea-sized amount of paste using a wooden pin.
-
Scalp Preparation:
- Use alcohol swab to clean the marked area on the scalp.
- Ensure scalp is fully exposed by parting the hair.
-
Placing the Electrode:
- Use fingers to hold hair aside.
- Set electrode on cleaned spot, pushing down until paste appears through the hole.
- Secure the electrode by running the wire backward off the head, ensuring it's settled.
-
Repeat Process:
- Follow the same steps for blue electrodes with white tips on each side of the head.
- Ensure the electrode wires (blue and black) are properly routed.
Ear Clip Placement
-
Preparation:
- Use paste on both sides of the ear electrodes.
-
Application:
- Expose the ear, avoiding hair tangles.
- Clip electrode onto the ear, ensuring a snug fit.
Cable Management
- Cable Order: Organize cables by color and purpose:
- Channel one: Blue cable
- Ground: Black cable
- Channel two: Blue cable (right side)
- Reference: White cable
Final Steps
-
Removal: Part hair and gently remove electrodes and paste using an alcohol swab.
-
Conclusion: Ensure all electrodes are removed cleanly, and cables are properly grouped for the next use.
