BMW's Innovations in Future Mobility

[Music] [Applause] How BMW BMW MX. Fore speech. Oliver Oliver. [Music] [Applause] [Music] up. Thank you, Sean. It's always a pleasure to be back in China where you can feel the vibrant culture and the pulse of innovation from promoting new energy vehicles and intelligent connected vehicles to breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and we are driving this progress together for the BMW group. That innovative progress is called the Noya Classer and that's what our show today is all about. The mobility of the future as only BMW can do. The Noya Cluster represents a completely new model generation in every dimension. The serious version of this vehicle, the Vision Noya Classer X, will kick off the Noya Classer later this year. It will be released onto the market as the BMW iix3. Production will ramp up at our new plant in Deben, Hungary late this year. And after that, the roll out of the Noya cluster will continue in rapid succession. In line with our at home in China strategy, the design team here in Shanghai has led the development of all China specific models of the Noya Classer products created in the market for the market. Starting in 2026, the first Noa Classer models produced in China will roll off the line in Shenyang. Made in China for China. And this sketch offers a glimpse of the first model, our iix3 customized for the Chinese markets. Later on, Adrien Fanhoyank and Laney Jang will show you how we have tailor made our UI UX for these models in China. Ladies and gentlemen, the BMW Group is one of only a few truly global players in our industry. And to be successful, we need not only global appeal, but be anchored into individual local markets. And China is the perfect example of how we at the BMW group are achieving this and how we differentiate ourselves from our competitors. Since 2010, approximately 116 billion renmi has been invested in the BMW production base in Shenyang. BMW's R&D network in China is our largest outside of Germany with locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Nanqing. This shows our commitment here is very clear because in China, innovation thrives. As a 360 degree company, we seamlessly integrate innovation into every facet of our operations. With our technology open approach, we offer customers the latest innovations across all brands and drivetrains, giving them the freedom to choose what best fits their needs. And this strategy has proven successful globally in China. We appreciate the policy environment that supports this path and empowers customer choice. Our holistic approach ensures that we remain at the forefront of the industry, delivering value and enriching experiences to our customers while contributing positively to society. And as a global player of the BMW Group, success builds on integrated global value chains. And as I've always emphasized, at BMW, we will continue to advocate for free trade and open markets because economic growth thrive through opening, not closing. Furthermore, we believe that global challenges require more cooperation and not less. Artificial intelligence is a prime area for your future cooperation and perfectly demonstrates how we are building at our local anchoring. And here in China, our comprehensive AI strategy empowers extended customer experiences, enhances core business processes, and fosters collaborative innovation with partners throughout the supply chain. Key advances in AI are happening right here in China with leading Chinese tech players. We are therefore strengthening AR partnerships for integration into our vehicles in China. For example, together with Alibaba, we are developing the next level of human vehicle voice interaction based on large language models. And for the Noa Classer, we will extend our speech assistance capabilities, further building on Alibaba's powerful model. And this will allow customers to intuitively interact with our speech assistants like with the travel companion or the car genius. And starting later this year, ladies and gentlemen, we will also integrate AI reasoning from Deep Seek into our newest vehicles here in China. And this will enhance our intelligent personal assistant with Deepseek functionality. It will also complement our existing AI capabilities and enable access to information that goes well beyond the vehicle itself. And for us, intelligence means combining different AI models and capability in a smart way. And this is how we operate in China for China and of course at China speed. Bringing breakthrough technologies from pioneering local players quickly to the road. With innovations like these, we are creating nothing less than the next level of intelligent sheer driving pleasure. We will continually build upon our technologies and bring them tailor made to the markets. particularly in a market like China where consumers expect the best digital innovations. And this is exactly what we are doing with our Noia cluster technologies. Just take the allnew BMW panoramic drive. We have adapted it specifically to Chinese tastes with input from our growing innovation network here in China. Adrien Fanho and Laney Chang will show you more. Thank [Applause] you. Welcome and good morning ladies and gentlemen. As we've just heard from Oliver with the BMW Nei, we are going to take huge steps forward. Nevertheless, for us at BMW, the driving experience will always remain our focus, putting the driver at ease and in control. And this intention is also reflected in the design of our all new user interface. And of course, it is specifically tailored to resonate with local aesthetics and functionalities following our athome in China approach. Our all new central display has grown in size. It is positioned closer to the driver and comes in a new shape with optimized ergonomics. Here in the ideal position for the driver, you will find your personal and most used functions. You can easily navigate between different widgets or within a specific widget to have access to further more detailed information. The background behind the floating widget can be fully personalized, but we will dive deeper into that a little later. Now at the bottom, our menu bar offers direct access to the mostus features like climate control or infotainment. Now let's move on to the re revolutionary BMW panoramic vision display. It will be the key element for this iDrive generation. It uses the whole width of the windscreen and will be visible for all passengers. Perfectly positioned in the field of vision. It supports the driver in the best possible way. We have focused on a very clean design for easy and quick readability. The floating tile on the left focuses on driving assistance functions. The right tile shows important information like battery state and range. But the most important information for the driver, for example, speed or driving status, is shown right at the center. And in addition to our spectacular BMW panoramic vision, there is a new 3D head-up display with visualizations for integrated navigation and highly automated driving. And finally, we will introduce our newly designed multi-function steering wheel with intuitive touch controls and fast response. All of this adds up to a unique hands on the wheel, eyes on the road experience. The new digital abilities of our cars will not only make them more intelligent and easier to use, but will also allow for much more personalization. And by selecting up to six of your preferred widgets, you can configure your personal dashboard. You simply need to select an app like media or weather and drag it from the central display to the panoramic vision. And this setup of will of course be linked to your driver profile, the BMW ID. And because personalization is key, we offer a multitude of individual and customizable options conceived by our Chinese development team and designed for our Chinese customers like the Lucky Cat or Solar Term. Now, let's dive into the next chapter of this digital journey. Please join me in welcoming my colleague Laney Chang from our digital development team, a true expert in user interaction and one of the key minds behind this experience. [Applause] Laney, BMW Fore speech. [Music] for BMW. for speech. M stand BMW. for BMW. Fore speech. for BMW. Mhm. So, sport mode is easily activated with one command or touch, adjusting settings for a more dynamic and performanceoriented driving experience. Sporty driving, however, is a holistic experience orchestrated through expressive light, our new hypersonic sound design, and a vibrant interface. And in addition to the sport, efficient and silent my mode, we are introducing an all new personal mode. In personal mode, you have the freedom to fully tailor both your driving settings and the user interface. You can now personalize your digital in-car environment in just a few simple steps. from interior lighting to interface design or even choosing your own background image to make the space truly your own. In addition, we will continuously update our digital products to keep them fresh and smarter every day. And this also gives us the opportunity to surprise our customers again and again. Now, let's have a look at what BMW Panoramic iDrive has in store for you. [Music] BMW. BMW How does he act? And as soon as the first model of the Noya cluster hits the market later this year, every new BMW will come with the all new BMW panoramic iDrive. It will be the standard user interface in every BMW across all models. Our entire design and development team in China and across the world is incredibly proud of what we've created and we can't wait for you to experience it for yourself. Thank you very much. And now I'd like to hand over to Yenola. [Applause] Adrien and Laney Chini the Pongy Hojo. Ladies and gentlemen, long time no see. Really wonderful to be back in China. And having worked in total 13 years in this country, I can say I truly feel at home in China. And Shanghai has always been one of my favorite cities. Being a leading global innovation hub, Shanghai is the perfect place to showcase our latest technologies and demonstrating our unique approach towards intelligent and connected mobility. And there is much more to come because BMW engineers and software developers are constantly innovating our products. This is particularly true in an area the BMW group brands are world renowned for. A domain where all our cars stand out like no other. Well, you surely know what I am referring to. The joy of driving. Our customers experience the joy of driving every single day across all brands, across all segments, and of course across all drivetrains. Take Mini for example. Our new Mini John Cooper Works models are true brand shapers, pushing driving excitements to the max and delivering that unique go-kart feeling only Mini could do. As for the BMW brand, our BMW cars are and will always remain the ultimate driving machine. The BMW 3 Series 50 years China special edition exhibited here on our booth is one great example. Ladies and gentlemen, you might not be aware that even before the very first 3 series has hit the road, we had already created joy of driving. When introducing the original Neuer cluster in the early 1960s, you can also call it our first ultimate driving machine. And ever since from the moment you drive it, you know it is a BMW no matter which drivetrain. The joy of driving is our most valuable asset. And that's why we send our engineers on a very special mission. Combining BMW datadriven intelligence with latest AI tools to create the ultimate prototype that will revolutionize intelligent driving. And I'm really proud to report, mission accomplished. But take a look for yourself at what is probably the most thrilling vehicle the BMW group has ever created. Heat. Heat. [Music] So ladies and gentlemen, the BMW vision driving experience or as we call it the BMW VD DX delivering 18,000 Newton meter of torque combined with up to 1.2 tons of downforce creating lateral forces of up to 3G which by the way is very close to a Formula 1 race car. You could call this car actually the ultimate ultimate driving machine. And to truly understand the full capabilities of our VDX, you need to see it in action. So let's take a look at a spectacular stunt by Yens Klingman which took place at our BMW experience center on Monday. And by the way, the guy you see in a second is in the car. So Yens Klingman did what you are going to see in a second. [Music] Oh yeah. Woo. Wow. Yes. Excellent. And as you can see, the VDX is truly breathtaking. However, this prototype will not go into production. Instead, many of the showcased VDX technologies will be integrated into our upcoming all electric production models and will this fundamentally transform the BMW brand. And let me briefly outline how we will achieve this. A core element of the VDX is our heart of joy. one of four super brains specifically developed for our softwaredefined Noia cluster. Whereas conventional cars feature separate control units for individual components like brakes, steering or drive unit. The BMW heart of joy is combining all drivetrain and driving dynamic related functions into one single unified control unit. And the digital performance of our heart of joy is unrivaled. Powered by BMW's in-house dynamic performance control software, it has just 1 millisecond of latency while the processing power is increased 10 times. Well, that's quite impressive. However, what really matters is how the heart of joy is taking the joy of driving to the next level. First, driving dynamics, creating exceptional traction at high stability and always with full control. Second, precision offering incredibly precise cornering performance. And third, braking, delivering an extremely smooth deceleration process. In fact, combined with a recuperation, brakes will not need to be applied in 98% of driving situations. And with this increasing the overall efficiency and boosting the electric range. So ladies and gentlemen, starting with the launch of the first Moya Cluster models later this year, the heart of joy will beat in every new allect electric BMW, making all electric driving more intelligent, more thrilling, and of course more BMW than ever before. Thank you very much for your attention.
