Development of Pancreas
Pancreatic Buds
- Two buds: ventral and dorsal
- Ventral Pancreatic Bud:
- Develops with the common hepatic bud (for liver and bile duct)
- Dorsal Pancreatic Bud:
- Develops directly from the duodenum
Fusion and Rotation
- Following rotation, the ventral pancreatic bud rotates and fuses with the dorsal pancreatic bud
- Forms the uncinate process of the pancreas
- Ducts anastomose:
- Duct of the ventral bud -> main pancreatic duct
- Duct of the dorsal bud -> accessory pancreatic duct
- Bile duct opens into the main pancreatic duct -> major duodenal papilla
Congenital Anomalies
- Annular Pancreas:
- Pancreas forms a ring around the second part of the duodenum
- Ectopic Pancreatic Tissue:
- Can be present in the duodenum, stomach wall, small intestine, and Meckel's diverticulum
This is a summary of the development of the pancreas.
